Jack Burke Jr, who attended Rice in 1941 but left to join the Marine Corps during WWII, won the PGA Championship in 1956. Dave Marr, who was a Rice freshman in the spring of 1951, won the PGA Championship in 1965. Neither lettered in golf at Rice. (Thanks, Joe Graves, Mike Ross and Jim Woodruff!)

Shepherd School of Music Professor Art Gottschalk, who was honored with an ARA Meritorious Service Award in 2016, started Michigan as a pre-med student and finished with three degrees (Bachelor of Music degree in Music Composition in 1974, a Master of Arts degree in Music Composition and English Literature in 1975 and a Doctorate in Music Composition in 1978).
