This year, UT head baseball coach David Pierce is competing in Omaha for the sixth time, either as a head coach or an assistant coach.  He participated four times as an assistant coach with Rice, first when the Owls won the national championship in 2003 and then in 2006, 2007 and 2008.  Also, he participated in the 2018 College World Series as UT head baseball coach.  (Thanks, Mike Ross and Joe Graves!)

In fact, Stanford head coach David Esquer is making his fifth trip to the College World Series this week.  He has been as a Stanford player in 1985 (backup shortstop) and 1987 (starting shortstop when the Cardinal won the national championship), as a Stanford assistant in 1995 and as the Cal head coach in 2011.  (Thanks, Joe Graves, Paul Reese and Mike Ross!)

In fact, there are two sets of fathers and sons who competed in the Super Regionals last weekend, the father as a head coach of one team and the son as a player on another team. One set was Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco and his son Drew, an infielder/outfielder for LSU.  The other set was Notre Dame head coach Link Jarrett and his son JT, an infielder for NC State.   Of the four, only JT has advanced to the College World Series in Omaha. Interestingly, the second baseman for Coach Bianco’s Ole Miss team was Peyton Chatagnier, the grandson of Brian Powers ’74. (Thanks, Jeff Ross!)
