In the fall of 1975, Rice played a NCAA level short softball season. Future Houston mayor Annise Parker ’78 played shortstop or first base on the team. The team went 0-4. On May 4, 2004, Chris “Gritman” Kolkhorst, who was a member of the 2003 College World Series team, was awarded his Rice diploma at a special ceremony on the field at Reckling Park by former Rice president Malcolm Gillis. He earned “a BA in economics and managerial studies and amassed a 3.36 grade point average and a .348 batting average during his three years on South Main”. Photo here. (Thanks, Mike Ross!)

Today is the release date of her latest movie, the Disney animated movie Encanto. The songs in Encanto were written by Lin-Manuel Miranda and accompanied by her musical scoring.
