Dr Philip Hardin (1941-2021):
On April 16, Dr Philip Hardin passed away.  A native Texan, he earned a BA from Rice in 1964, a Masters degree from Texas Tech and a MD from UTMB Galveston.  For 44 years beginning in 1976, he enjoyed a dermatology practice in and around Mtn Home, Ark.  Also, he had many outside interests.  He is survived by, among others, his wife of fifty-eight years Judy.  Click here for the obituary.

James Daily (1929-2021):
On April 17, James Daily passed away.  A native Houstonian, he earned a BA from Rice in 1951 and later received a CPA designation.  After military service, he enjoyed a thirty-year career with Tenneco, retiring in 1985 as VP and Controller.  Also, he “was an avid sports fan and loved watching the Houston Astros”.  He is survived by, among others, his wife Ginger (they were married for sixty-eight years).  Family members with Rice ties include his daughter Kathy ‘76 and her husband Ed ’76 who is a Professor in the Practice in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Rice.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Dr Anne McLaurin (1946-2021):
On April 22, Dr Anne McLaurin passed away from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.  Born in Boston, she earned a BA in Biology from Rice in 1969 (where she was homecoming queen in 1968) and a MD from the University of Cincinnati in 1974.  She enjoyed a long career in medicine in Miami, Raleigh and throughout Wake County NC.  Also, she was active in the community, especially when her husband Charles was mayor of Raleigh from 2001 to 2011.  In 2016, she was inducted into the Raleigh Hall of Fame.  She is survived, by among others, Charles (they were married in 1980).  Click here for The News & Observer obituary.

Dr Jay Palmer (1956-2021):
On April 17, Dr Jay Palmer passed away.  Raised in Fort Worth, he earned a BA from Rice in 1979 and a MD from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.  Beginning in 1988, he enjoyed a thirty-two year career in private practice in Fort Worth as an ear, nose and throat surgeon specializing in pediatric diseases.  Also, he was a “passionate home chef” and he was active in the community.  Click here for the Star-Telegram obituary.
