November 16, 2016 - Gray 4, Blue 3
The final fall ball scrimmage began on a lovely mid-November afternoon. Unfortunately the lovely weather was pushed aside by the haze and smoke from the fire at a recycling plant. There were times when our outfielders were difficult to see through the murky sky.
The game itself was a close affair. Gray got out in front in the first 2-1 and went up 3-1 in the third but Blue got one back in the bottom of the third. Blue tied it at 3 in the fourth. Gray then scored in the fifth and held on for the win at 4-3.
Kendal Jefferies pitched the first three innings for Blue and Dane Myers pitched the first three innings for Gray.
In the first for the Gray team, Charlie Warren singled to center. Brandt Frazier reached on an infield single. Ford Proctor continued his hot hitting with an RBI single to center. Warren scored. Frazier to second. An outfield fly was the first out. No runners advanced.
Ryan Chandler's infield single loaded the bases. Chace Sarchet hit an RBI fielder's choice to first base. Frazier scored. Proctor and Chandler each moved up a base. A strikeout ended the rally.
Blue answered with a run of their own. Dayne Wunderlich reached on an infield error. He took second on a wild pitch. Brad Gneiting singled Wunderlich home. Gneiting stole second. A foul pop-out and two fly outs ended the inning.
Gray failed to score in the second. Warren singled with two out. He was out in an attempt to steal. Blue didn't score either.
In the third, Proctor doubled with one out for Gray. Mac Mueller walked behind him. Chandler singled to right. Proctor scored. Chandler was out at second on the throw from Cody Staab to Dom DiCaprio to Tristan Gray at short. A ground-out to the pitcher to first ended the third.
Blue got a run in the third also. Wunderlich reached on an infield single. Gneiting singled off the pitcher's body. Men on first and second. Addison Moss singled to center. Bases loaded. Tristan Gray's sac-fly to center scored their second run. Two outs followed.
After three, it was 3-2 Gray.
In the fourth inning, Zach Wright relieved for Blue. He would go 3 innings. Mueller took over for Gray. Mueller pitched tow innings.
Wright hit Chad Tatum with his first pitch. Blue turned a nice 3-6-1 DP. A strikeout ended the frame.
Blue would tie the game in the fourth. With one out, Jefferies singled to center. Wunderlich walked. Gneiting sacrificed the runners up a base. Moss walked to load the bases. A wild pitched scored Jefferies. Wunderlich to third and Moss to second. A strikeout ended the fourth.
3-3 after 4 innings.
In the fifth, Gray took back the lead. With one out, Frazier reached on an infield error. Proctor singled to left. His third hit of the day and seventh consecutive hit in the last two days. Frazier to second. Mueller dropped a ball in front of the right fielder.
Frazier got caught in no-man's land and was out at third on the throw from Staab to Moss at third. It was Staab's second outfield assist of the day. Chandler walked. Moss to second. Proctor to third.
An infield error allowed Proctor to score. The bases were still loaded as the runners each moved up a base. A strike-out ended the fifth.
Mueller walked one in the fifth but allowed no runs.
Wright pitched a 1-2-3 sixth.
Ben Scrhagger closed for Gray in the bottom of the sixth.
Wunderlich opened the inning with a single to left. A fly out and pop-up followed. An infield error put runners at first and second. Scrhagger finished with a strikeout to end the scrimmage and our fall ball at the Reck for 2016.

November 15, 2016 - Blue 5, Gray 1
The scrimmage began after 5:00 PM today. It was a delightful evening with the moon rising as the game wound down. Gray pitching held the Blue squad ti one run. Gray scored one in the first and two in the third to take an early 3-0 lead. Gray added single runs in the 6th and 9th innings. Blue scored once in the eighth
Roel Garcia pitched the first four innings for Blue. His line was 4.0 innings, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 SO.
He was followed by Nick Silber who also pitched four innings. His line was 4.0 innings, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO.
Ben Schragger pitched the ninth. 1.0 inning, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 SO.
For Gray, Garrett Gayle started. 5.0 innings. 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 SO. Addison Moss relieved Gayle. 3.0 innings, 4 h, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 SO.
Gray scored in the first when Charlie Warren walked. He advanced to third on a 2-base wild pitch. A soft liner to second was the first out. Ford Proctor got the first of his four singles to drive home Warren. Dane Myers followed with another single up-the middle. Two outs ended the innings.
Wunderlich singled to right-center for Blue in the first. He was eliminated on a double play.was doubled up in the first. A fly ended the frame.
With one out in the third, Moss reached on a seeing-eye single through the left-side of the infield. Moss took second on a wild pitch. Proctor singled to score Moss. Proctor took second on the throw. He advanced to third on a wild pitch. Dane Myers walked. Proctor scored and Myers reached second on a passed ball. Two SOs followed.
Andrew Dunlap single through the left-side to open the third for Blue. A fielder's choice to second forced him at second . Two fly outs ended the inning.
Gray was up 3-0 after three innings.
Proctor had a one out single in the fifth. A fielder's choice force out and a ground out to second ended the fifth.
In the sixth, Chace Sarchet lined a single to right with one out. Nick Tanner singled to right with two outs. Sarchet to third. Warren walked to load the bases. Proctor singled to left in front of Andrew Dunlap. Sarchet scored. Dunlap fired a strike to home to nail Tanner at the plate.
After 6, it was 4-0 Gray.
Ryan Chandler had a single in the seventh and Myers one in the eighth. No scoring took place.
Cody Staab singled to left-center with one out in the seventh. The inning ended on a 6-4-3 DP.
Blue finally broke through with a run in the eighth. Tanner singled with one out. Yes he switched teams. He advanced to second on a wild pitch. Wunderlich hit a double down the the line in left. Tanner scored. Brad Gneiting singled to left. Two SOs ended the rally.
After eight, it was 4-1 Gray.
Gray added one more run in the ninth. Sarchet singled to right once again. Chad Tatum reached on an infield error. A throwing error followed with Tatum going to second and Sarchet to third. A grounder to third turned into a double play. Sarchet was tagged out trying to get back to third. The batter was forced at first. Tatum was still at second. Warren singled to right to score Tatum. A SO ended the scrimmage.
Tomorrow will be the last scrimmage of the fall.

November 11, 2016 - Blue 11, Gray 5
Fall is definitely here. I needed a sweatshirt over my long sleeve tee shirt tonight to stay comfortable. Unfortunately the play of the Owl defense left me very uncomfortable. My count showed eight errors for the scrimmage!!
The Blue team rallied from a five run deficit to take the scrimmage, 11-5.
Dane Myers started for Blue. He pitched in the first four innings. His line was 3.1 innings. 5 runs. 4 ERs. 7 hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
Zach Wright pitched the opening four innings four Gray. His line was 3.2 innings. 3 runs. 1 ER. 4 hits with one strikeout and six walks and a hit batter.
Kendal Jefferies relieved in the fifth for Blue. He pitched four shutout innings. A lead-off walk to Dayne Wunderlich was eliminated on a strike-em out throw-em out DP. A lead-off single by Ford Proctor was stranded in the sixth.
Wright retired the final nine batters.
Ben Schragger pitched the fifth and sixth for Gray. In his two innings, his line was 1.0 inning with 3 runs, 1 ER, 1 hit with one walk and one hit batter and two strikeouts.
Mac Mueller pitched the seventh and eighth for Gray. Mueller's line was 2.0 innings. He allowed 5 ERs on 6 hits and struck out one.
The big hits of the day for Blue were Chase Sarchet's 3 run HR to right in the eighth; Myers had a 2 run single in the eighth and DiCaprio's 2 run single in the second.
For the Gray team, Cody Staab had a 2 run double in the third.

November 9, 2016 - Blue 3, Gray 2
Amador gave up two runs in the second. Chad Tatum opened the inning with a single to left. The next two batters were retired on a strike-out and fly to left. Charlie Warren was HBP. Kendal Jefferies reached on a single to short. An errant throw to second allowed. Chandler to score and Warren to take third. A wild pitch scored Warren and moved Jefferies to second. Chandler walked. A fly to right ended the rally.
Amador retired the side in order in the third.
After three innings, it was Blue 2, Gray1.
Brent Schwarz relieved for Gray in the bottom of the fourth. Schwarz pitched four innings. He allowed three earned runs on five hits with tow walks and one hit batter. He struck-out three.
Blue struck for three in the fourth. Schwarz retired the first two hitters. Warren then singled to right. Jefferies was HBP. Chandler doubled down the left-field line. Warren scored and Jefferies went to third. DiCaprio singled to left. Jefferies and Chandler scored. An infield grounder ended the frame.
Schwarz shut-out Blue after that. He allowed singles to Mac Mueller and Andrew Dunlap in the fifth. He retired the side in order in the sixth. He gave up two walks in the seventh.
Evan Kravetz pitched four shut-out innings for Blue. His ERA continues to fall. He walked one and hit one batter with a pitch. Staab singled to right off Kravetz in the seventh. It was the only hit he gave up. He struck-out three.
Final was Blue 5, Gray 1. 7 1/2 innings.
November 4, 2016 - Gray 6, Blue 2
The scrimmage was followed by the Rice Women's basketball game. The Owls broke the century mark in beating Concordia 101-46 tonight. It was fun.
Hopefully Rice FB and MBB games are as much fun tomorrow.
The baseball scrimmage had its own share of fun as Blue won 6-2 in 8 quick innings today.
The game featured the fist home run by Brandt Frazier. Dom DiCaprio also hit his first homer of the fall.
Each team sent three pitchers to hill. Blue pitchers were Dane Myers (3 inn), Kendal Jefferies (2.2 inn) and Ben Schragger (2 inn). Gray sent Addison Moss (3 inn), Zach Wright (3 inn), and Mac Mueller (2 inn) out to pitch.
Myers shutout Gray on one hit and one walk. After seven straight outs, Myers walked Andrew Dunlap. Moss doubled over the right-fielder's head. Dunlap to third. A deep fly ball to left was caught. The runner on third was doubled up as it was ruled he left the base early.
Moss gave up two quick runs in the first. Charlie Warren and Myers hit back-to-back doubles. Warren scored. After a strike-out, DiCaprio beat out an infield single. Myers to third. Cody Staab's grounder to second forced DiCaprio as Myers scored. A pop-out ended the first.
In the second, Frazier hit a 1-1 pitch over the wall in left. He was mobbed by his teammates. A pop-up and strikeout followed. Warren singled to left but was out in an attempt to reach second. Myers singled to lead-off the third. Ryan Chandler grounded to first with Myers taking second. DiCaprio doubled to left. Myers scored easily. An outfield fly and a grounder-out to short ended the outing for Moss.
After three innings, Blue was up 4-0.
Jefferies relieved for Blue. He retired the first six batters he faced. In the sixth, Mueller singled to start the inning. Mueller stole second. A strikeout was the first out. Moss walked. Nick Tanner doubled down the left-field line. Mueller scored. Moss to third. Dane Wunderlich's sac-fly to center scored Moss. The inning was called.
Jefferies went 2.2 innings and allowed two runs on two hits with two SOs and one BB.

Jefferies laid down a perfect squeeze bunt to score Chandler. Jefferies stole second. The next batter struck-out.
Wright retired the side in order in the sixth. Wright went 3.0 innings. He allowed one unearned run on three hits, one walk, and two SOs.
After six innings, Blue had a 5-2 lead.
Schragger and Mueller relieved for Blue and Gray respectively.

Schragger pitched tow scoreless innings. He gave up two hits with no SOs or walks. One hit batter.
Mueller was walked Myers on four pitches. Gray turned a 4-6-3 DP to erase the runner. DiCaprio hit a high fly to deep left. Was it going to stay fair or go foul? The ball pinged off the foul pole for a homer. His first of the fall. Mueller retired the next four batters to close out his outing. Two innings. One earned run. One walk.
Final after 8 innings was Blue 6 vs. Gray 2.

November 2, 2016 - Gray 6, Blue 4
The fall-ball streak of perfect weather ended today with the first lightning delay of the fall. That delay was followed by a light rain shower.
Gray had gone out in front 1-0 prior to the lightning delay. In the fifth inning, they scored 2 to go ahead 3-0. Blue then rallied for 4 runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Gray then scored three unearned runs in the sixth to take the lead 6-4. With quick 1-2-3 bottom of the sixth, Gray closed out the win.
Garrett Gayle started for Blue. He pitched three innings in which he allowed one earned run, He gave up 3 hits and four walks and no strike-outs.
Yesterday's rains were all gone. The humidity and temps felt more like fall. It was a perfect November evening for baseball in Houston.
November 7, 2016 - Blue 5, Gray 1
Yesterday's rains were all gone. The humidity and temps felt more like fall. It was a perfect November evening for baseball in Houston.
The Blue pitcher's held the Gray squad to one run while the Blue offense scored two in the second and three in the fourth to take a 5-1 win in 7 1/2 innings.
Zach Esquivel started for Blue. He went four innings. He gave up one earned run on three hits. He struck out five and walked one and hit one batter.
After retiring the first six batters, Cody Staab reached on an infield hit in the third. Khevin Brewer was HBP. Two outs followed. Dayne Wunderlich singled Staab home. A grounder to third ended the inning.
In the fourth, Ford Proctor walked. Dane Myers followed with a single. A strike-out, an infield ground-out 4-3 that moved the runners to third and second was followed by a fly out to left. That ended the fourth.
Willy Amador started for Gray. Amador pitched three innings. He gave up 2 runs (1 earned) on four hits, tow walks, one HBP, and two strikeouts.
In the first, Ryan Chandler and Dom DiCaprio each singled to left with two outs. Chase Sarchet walked to load the bases. A fielder's choice grounder to third forced DiCaprio to retire the side.

November 9, 2016 - Blue 3, Gray 2
On a night where there was some excellent pitching by all four pitchers, Blue staged a two out three run rally to win tonight.
Addison Moss started for Blue. After two scoreless innings, Gray tallied a single run in the third. With one out, Nick Tanner singled to left. Charlie Warren doubled to right center field. Tanner to third. Tanner scored when Kendal Jefferies hit a sac-fly to left. The inning ended on a called strike-out.
Gray would add another run in the fourth. Dom DiCaprio started the inning with his second warning track power shot of the evening. In the first, Dayne Wunderlich ran it down at the center field fence.. In the fourth, Khevin Brewer made the catch in right center. Chase Sarchet hit a 3-2 pitch over Brewer's head for a triple.
Mac Mueller bounced a ground-rule double over the fence in right center. Sarchet scored. Moss finished by striking-out the final two batters of the inning.
Moss pitched 4 innings. He allowed 2 earned runs on 4 hits with one walk and 4 SOs.
Garrett Gayle pitched four shutout innings for Gray. Dane Myers singled in the second but was erased on a 6-4-3 ground ball double play. In the third, Moss singled to right with one out. Wunderlich singled to left with two outs. Moss moved to second. A ground out ended the frame.
In the fourth, Ford Proctor singled to right to lead-off. Myers walked. Three outs followed.
Gayle gave up no runs on 4 hits with a walk and a strikeout.
After four innings, Gray was up 2-0.
Roel Garcia pitched the final four innings for Blue. Roel was perfect. Twelve up. Twelve down. No runs. No hits. Five strikeouts.
Nick Silber relieved Gayle for Gray. He pitched the last four innings. For 3.2 innings, he held Blue to one hit batter. With two down in the bottom of the eight, Brandt laced an infield hit toward third. Frazier moved up a base on a passed ball. Proctor reached on an infield error. Frazier scored.
With the score now 2-1 Gray, Myers hit a 3-0 pitch over the right center field wall. Proctor scored ahead of Myers. It was now 3-2. A walk to Brad Gneiting and an infield single by Khevin Brewer ended the scrimmage.
Silber pitched 3.2 innings. He allowed 3 runs (0 ERs) on 3 hits with one hit batter and one walk. He struck out two.
Blue wins 3-2 in eight innings.
November 7, 2016 - Blue 5, Gray 1
Yesterday's rains were all gone. The humidity and temps felt more like fall. It was a perfect November evening for baseball in Houston.
The Blue pitcher's held the Gray squad to one run while the Blue offense scored two in the second and three in the fourth to take a 5-1 win in 7 1/2 innings.
Zach Esquivel started for Blue. He went four innings. He gave up one earned run on three hits. He struck out five and walked one and hit one batter.
After retiring the first six batters, Cody Staab reached on an infield hit in the third. Khevin Brewer was HBP. Two outs followed. Dayne Wunderlich singled Staab home. A grounder to third ended the inning.
In the fourth, Ford Proctor walked. Dane Myers followed with a single. A strike-out, an infield ground-out 4-3 that moved the runners to third and second was followed by a fly out to left. That ended the fourth.
Willy Amador started for Gray. Amador pitched three innings. He gave up 2 runs (1 earned) on four hits, tow walks, one HBP, and two strikeouts.
Amador gave up two runs in the second. Chad Tatum opened the inning with a single to left. The next two batters were retired on a strike-out and fly to left. Charlie Warren was HBP. Kendal Jefferies reached on a single to short. An errant throw to second allowed. Chandler to score and Warren to take third. A wild pitch scored Warren and moved Jefferies to second. Chandler walked. A fly to right ended the rally.
Amador retired the side in order in the third.
After three innings, it was Blue 2, Gray1.
Brent Schwarz relieved for Gray in the bottom of the fourth. Schwarz pitched four innings. He allowed three earned runs on five hits with tow walks and one hit batter. He struck-out three.
Blue struck for three in the fourth. Schwarz retired the first two hitters. Warren then singled to right. Jefferies was HBP. Chandler doubled down the left-field line. Warren scored and Jefferies went to third. DiCaprio singled to left. Jefferies and Chandler scored. An infield grounder ended the frame.
Schwarz shut-out Blue after that. He allowed singles to Mac Mueller and Andrew Dunlap in the fifth. He retired the side in order in the sixth. He gave up two walks in the seventh.
Evan Kravetz pitched four shut-out innings for Blue. His ERA continues to fall. He walked one and hit one batter with a pitch. Staab singled to right off Kravetz in the seventh. It was the only hit he gave up. He struck-out three.
Final was Blue 5, Gray 1. 7 1/2 innings.
November 4, 2016 - Gray 6, Blue 2
The scrimmage was followed by the Rice Women's basketball game. The Owls broke the century mark in beating Concordia 101-46 tonight. It was fun.
Hopefully Rice FB and MBB games are as much fun tomorrow.

Each team sent three pitchers to hill. Blue pitchers were Dane Myers (3 inn), Kendal Jefferies (2.2 inn) and Ben Schragger (2 inn). Gray sent Addison Moss (3 inn), Zach Wright (3 inn), and Mac Mueller (2 inn) out to pitch.
Myers shutout Gray on one hit and one walk. After seven straight outs, Myers walked Andrew Dunlap. Moss doubled over the right-fielder's head. Dunlap to third. A deep fly ball to left was caught. The runner on third was doubled up as it was ruled he left the base early.
Moss gave up two quick runs in the first. Charlie Warren and Myers hit back-to-back doubles. Warren scored. After a strike-out, DiCaprio beat out an infield single. Myers to third. Cody Staab's grounder to second forced DiCaprio as Myers scored. A pop-out ended the first.
In the second, Frazier hit a 1-1 pitch over the wall in left. He was mobbed by his teammates. A pop-up and strikeout followed. Warren singled to left but was out in an attempt to reach second. Myers singled to lead-off the third. Ryan Chandler grounded to first with Myers taking second. DiCaprio doubled to left. Myers scored easily. An outfield fly and a grounder-out to short ended the outing for Moss.
After three innings, Blue was up 4-0.
Jefferies relieved for Blue. He retired the first six batters he faced. In the sixth, Mueller singled to start the inning. Mueller stole second. A strikeout was the first out. Moss walked. Nick Tanner doubled down the left-field line. Mueller scored. Moss to third. Dane Wunderlich's sac-fly to center scored Moss. The inning was called.
Jefferies went 2.2 innings and allowed two runs on two hits with two SOs and one BB.
Zach Wright came in for Gray. He pitched scoreless innings in the fourth and sixth innings. Rodrigo Duluc singled in the fourth and stole a base. In the fifth, Ryan Chandler singled to left. DiCaprio hit a deep fly to center. The ball was caught. The throw back to first sailed into the first base dugout. Chandler was awarded third base. Jefferies laid down a perfect squeeze bunt to score Chandler. Jefferies stole second. The next batter struck-out.
Wright retired the side in order in the sixth. Wright went 3.0 innings. He allowed one unearned run on three hits, one walk, and two SOs.
After six innings, Blue had a 5-2 lead.
Schragger and Mueller relieved for Blue and Gray respectively.
In the seventh, Chase Sarchet lead-off against Schragger with a single to center. He was eliminated on a 4-6-3 DP. Ford Proctor blooped a single to center. An unassisted ground-out to first ended the inning.
In the eighth, Schragger retired the first two batters. Dunlap was HBP. Moss reached on an infield error. A grounder to short forced Moss at second to end the frame.
Schragger pitched tow scoreless innings. He gave up two hits with no SOs or walks. One hit batter.
Mueller was walked Myers on four pitches. Gray turned a 4-6-3 DP to erase the runner. DiCaprio hit a high fly to deep left. Was it going to stay fair or go foul? The ball pinged off the foul pole for a homer. His first of the fall. Mueller retired the next four batters to close out his outing. Two innings. One earned run. One walk.

The fall-ball streak of perfect weather ended today with the first lightning delay of the fall. That delay was followed by a light rain shower.
Gray had gone out in front 1-0 prior to the lightning delay. In the fifth inning, they scored 2 to go ahead 3-0. Blue then rallied for 4 runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Gray then scored three unearned runs in the sixth to take the lead 6-4. With quick 1-2-3 bottom of the sixth, Gray closed out the win.
Garrett Gayle started for Blue. He pitched three innings in which he allowed one earned run, He gave up 3 hits and four walks and no strike-outs.

In the second, Ford Proctor reached on an infield error. Caught stealing. Kendal Jefferies singled and was out trying to stretch it to a double. Cody Staab walked. Robbie Lammons walked. Khevin Brewer singled Staab home. Andrew Dunlap walked to load the bases. Nick Tanner grounded to the second-baseman to force Dunlap.
Seven men went to the plate and all seven reached base. Only one run scored.
Evan Kravetz started and pitched the first four innings Gray. Once again Kravetz had a great outing holding Blue scoreless. No runs on three hits. One walk and one strike-out.
With one out in the first, Addison Moss singled off Kravetz's foot. He was eliminated on a 4-6-3 DP. Dom DiCaprio walked to start the second. Chase Sarchet followed with a single to left. Three infield outs followed to end the rally.
Rodrigo Duluc singled on a 3-2 pitch leading-off the third. He was doubled at first on a soft liner to second with the hit and run on. He finished with a 1-2-3 fourth inning.
Nick Silber come on for Blue in the fourth. He pitched three innings giving up five runs (two ERs) with five hits and one walk and two strike-outs.
In the fourth, Staab singled. He was eliminated on an around-the-horn DP. In the fifth, Brewer singled for his second hit of the day. Two outs followed before Dayne Wunderlich doubled to left. Brewer scored. Two wild pitches scored Wunderlich. Silber struck-out the final batter of the frame.
In the sixth, Dane Myers reached on an infield throwing error. Ford Proctor walked. Jefferies reached on an infield single to second. Bases loaded. Staab drove home Myers with a force at first. Another ground-out to first was the second out. No run scored. Brewer then hit his third single of the evening to drive home two more runs. A fly to center ended the stanza.
Roel Garcia pitched the fifth and sixth for Blue. He allowed four runs on two hits, three walks, and four strikeouts.
All the damage by Blue came in the drizzle in the fifth inning. With one out, Garcia walked Chad Tatum, Brandt Frazier and Duluc. Charlie Warren doubled to right-center. Tatum and Frazier scored. Duluc to third. Duluc scored on a wild pitch. Warren to third. After a strike-out, Ryan Chandler was safe on an infield grounder. Warren scored. DiCaprio forced Chandler at second to end the inning. Garcia retired the side in order in the sixth.

Happy Halloween! It's a perfect night for Trick-or-Treating. Also a great evening for Rice fall-ball.
The Gray tandem of Zach Esquivel and Brent Schwarz shut-out Blue on two hits tonight. They were supported by Dane Myers and Ford Proctor who each had three hits and a walk in four plate appearances apiece. Gray scored six to win 6-0 in 6 1/2 innings.
Willy Amador pitched well in his four innings for Blue. Through three innings, he allowed only Dane Myers two-out single to center in the first. Two walks followed. Amador then retired seven straight batters.
Myers doubled to lead-off the fourth. Proctor singled up-the-middle to score Dane. Amador retired the next two batters before he walked Robbie Lammons. A fly to center ended his outing.
Amador allowed one ER, three hits, three walks, and struck-out three.
In the first inning, Esquivel did something I don't recall ever seeing. He retired the side on three pitches!!!
Zach walked Mac Mueller with two outs in the second. He retired the side in-order in the third. With one out in the fourth, Ryan Chandler reached on an infield single. Brad Gneiting made a diving stop on the ball. Chandler was just too quick and beat the throw to first.
A fly to right was the second out. With Chase Sarchet at the plate, Zach picked Chandler off to end the fourth. Esquivel allowed no runs, one hit, one walk, and struck out two.
Nick Orewiler relieved Amador in the fifth. His first pitch hit Andrew Dunlap in the left shoulder. A grounder back to the pitcher was thrown to second to force Dunlap. Nick Tanner to first. Dayne Wunderlich doubled to left-center. Tanner scored. A fly to left was the second out. Wunderlich took third on an errant pick-off throw to second. Myers singled to right to score Dayne. Proctor singled Myers to third. a grounder to short forced Proctor at second to end the fifth.
In the sixth, Orewiler struck-out the lead-off batter. Lammons doubled to left over the outfielder's head. Khevin Brewer singled Lammons to third. Another strike-out was the second out. Tanner was HBP. A fielder's choice grounder to second ended the sixth and Orewiler's outing.
Orewiler allowed two ERs on five hits and two hit batters with two SOs.
Schwarz relieved Esquivel in the firth. Chase Sarchet greeted him with a single to center. Chase stole second. Chase out out at third attempting to steal as Mueller walked on a full count. Two outs followed to end the fifth.
Schwarz retired the side in-order in the sixth. He line for his outing for Gray was no runs, one hit, one walk, and two strike-outs.
Schwarz then pitched the final inning against Gray . Gneiting singled through the left-side. Brad stole second. Myers walked to complete his perfect day. Proctor's double to left scored Gneiting and Myers. That gave Proctor a perfect day also. A fly out was the first out. Staab single to left. Proctor scored. Game called.
For his outing for Blue, Brent allowed three runs on three hits with one walk.
Final Gray 6, Blue 0 in 6 1/2 innings.

October 29, 2016 - Blue 3, Gray 3
Gray scored two runs in the first and tied the scrimmage up on Andrew Dunlap's HR to right-center to lead-off the seventh. Blue had taken a 3-2 lead with one run in the third and two in the fourth. The game ended after 6 1/2 innings in a 3-3 draw.
Kendal Jefferies pitched the first three innings for Blue. Charlie Warren singled to right on the first pitch. Mac Mueller followed with a run scoring double to the fence in left-center. Ryan Chandler singled through the left-side. Dom DiCaprio sent Mueller home with a sac-fly to right. A come backer ended the inning with a 1-6-3 double play.
Jefferies pitched shut-out ball in the second and third innings. Staab had a single in the second. Mueller walked with two outs. Jefferies pitched 3.0 innings and allowed 2 ERs, 4 hits, 2 SOs and 1 BB.
Ricky Salinas pitched in four innings for Blue. In the first, Salinas worked out of trouble after Ford Proctor doubled with one out. Ford was tagged out at second on a fielder's choice grounder by Jefferies. Jefferies stole second and took third on the errant throw to second. Chase Sarchet walked. A strike-out ended the first.
Salinas retired the side on three infield outs in the second. In the third, Brandt Frazier walked to lead-off. Dayne Wunderlich singled to left. Frazier to second. Proctor doubled to left-center. Frazier scored. Wunderlich to third. With the infield drawn in, Wunderlich was out at the plate 6-2 as Jefferies grounded to short. Jefferies stole second once again. A strike-out and a foul pop-out to the pitched ended the rally.
Salinas issued another lead-off walk in the fourth. This time to Addison Moss. Moss stole second. With one out, Chad Tatum doubled to the left-field corner to score Moss. Frazier singled Tatum home. Inning called. Salinas pitched 3.1 innings. He allowed 3 ERs, 5 hits, 3 SOs and 3 BBs.
Dane Myers came on to pitch for Blue. He pitched the 4th-6th innings. DiCaprio singled to right-center. Dom went to third on a wild pitch that escaped the catcher. Brad Gneiting walked. A strike-out preceded the inning ending double play grounder to shortstop.
In the fifth, Myers gave up a two out single to Warren. Warren was picked-off to end the frame.
In the sixth, Myers struck-out three with a two out walk to DiCaprio wedged in between. Myers line was no runs on 2 hits with 4 SOs and 2 BBs.
Mac Mueller pitched the fifth and sixth for Gray. In the fifth, Proctor singled for his third hit of the day. He was stranded. In the sixth, Moss singled with one out. A fly to right and a pop to short ended Mueller's day. His outing was no runs on 2 hits with one strike-out.
After 6 innings, Blue was up 3-2.
Ben Schragger pitched the seventh for Blue. Andrew Dunlap greeted him with Dunlap's first HR of the fall. Staab singled for the second time but was caught stealing. Duluc followed with another single . He was picked-off. Nick Tanner walked. Warren singled to right for his third hit of the day. Tanner to second. Mueller was HBP. Tanner and Warren each moved up a base. The inning and scrimmage ended on a 6-3 ground-out. Schragger gave up 1 ER on four hits and a walk and a HBP.
Final was 3-3.
October 27, 2016 - Blue 6, Gray 1
After Gray scored one run in the top of the first, Blue answered with two runs in the bottom of the first. Blue added two more in the fifth and single runs in the seventh and eighth to take a 6-1 win over Gray tonight.
The Blue triumvirate of Addison Moss, Evan Kravetz, and Garrett Gayle each pitched three innings.
Gray's pitchers were Zach Wright, Roel Garcia and Nick Silber. Wright and Garcia pitched three innings and Silber one.
Gray scored an unearned run in the first off Moss. Dayne Wunderlich singled to lead-off, He was tagged out as he rounded first too far. A fly out followed. Kendal Jefferies reached second on an infield single and a throwing error. He scored on Mac Mueller's double. A walk to Brad Gneiting followed. An infield grounder forced Brad at second to end the inning.
Brewer walked to start the second. He was forced at second as the third out. Ford Proctor singled to open the third. He stole second but failed to score as three outs followed. Ryan Chandler had a single in the third off Garcia. Gray would not score again.
Tanner singled in the fifth and Gneiting singled in the sixth off Kravetz.
Moss pitched 3.0 innings. He allowed one unearned run on 4 hits with two strike-outs and two walks. Kravetz went 3.0 innings with no runs and two hits and one strike-out and two walks. Gayle also went 3.0 innings and allowed no runs runs. He gave up one infield hit to Cody Staab in the ninth. He had no walks or strike-outs.
Blue scored two runs in the first off Wright on consecutive one out hits by Moss, Ryan Chandler and Dom DiCaprio. DiCaprio drove home the first run. Chase Sarchet 's fielder's choice grounder drove home the second run. Another grounder ended the inning.
Wright pitched scoreless ball after that. He went 3.0 innings and allowed the two earned runs on five hits. No walks or strikeouts.
Garcia came on to pitch the next three innings. After he retired the side in order in the fourth, Blue scored two in the fifth frame. Andrew Dunlap drew a walk to open the inning. He stole second. Rodrigo Duluc drove Andrew home with a single to center.
Duluc went to second on a wild pitch. A pop-out failed to advance the runner. Moss walked to reach base for the sixth straight time over the last two scrimmages. Moss was forced at second. The throw to first failed to connect and went into the dugout. Duluc scored and Chandler went to second. Another pop-up ended the fifth.
Garcia recorded a strike-outand a fly out. Chad Tatum singled to right. Garcia ended his outing with a strike-out.
Garcia pitched three innings as he gave up two runs (one earned), two hits, four strike-outs, and two walks.
Nick Silber pitched the final two innings for Gray. Blue scored one run in the seventh on Charlie Warren's one out single to center. Warren stole second. He advanced to third on a fielder's choice and scored on Chandler's RBI single through the left-side of the infield. A fly out ended the inning.
In the eighth, Sarchet homered off the scoreboard to start the inning. Blue threatened to get more as Brandt Frazier singled to center. Chad Tatum dropped a Texas leaguer into short center. Frazier held at second. The two runners advanced a base on Dunlap's deep fly to left-field. Silber struck-out the next batter on a dirt ball Batter out on the throw to first. Runner on third attempted to score but was tagged out on the return throw to the pitcher at home.

Gray scored four late runs off the Blue relief pitching to take a 5-1 win tonight.
Willy Amador (Blue) and Zach Esquivel (Gray) hooked up in a pitcher's duel for the first five innings. They had amazingly similar stats.

In the sixth inning, Brent Schwarz relieved Amador and Nick Orewiler took over for Esquivel.
Schwarz hit Dayne Wunderlich with his first pitch. Ford Proctor followed with a single to left. Wunderlich to second. Kendall Jefferies hit a ball to the right-field corner. Wunderlich scored. Proctor to third. Jefferies was thrown out in an attempt to stretch the hit into a double. Mac Mueller walked. Brad Gneiting hit a ball to deep left. Mueller had moved tto second and was doubled up by Chase Sarchet's throw to first. Inning over.
Orewiler gave up a one out single to Moss. He was stranded as a strike-out and ground out followed.
In the seventh, Gray added two more runs. Lammons walked. Brewer tripled him home with a drive to deep right-center. Staab singled to left and Brewer scored. Staab out thrown out attempting to steal. Two more outs followed.
Orewiler gave up a lead-off double to Sarchet. Chase was out on a relay throw to third that cut him down legging for a triple. Once again two more outs ended the inning.
After seven innings, it was 4-1 Gray.
Gray added another run in the eighth. Proctor led-off with his third straight hit. Jefferies followed with his second straight single. A wild pitch moved each runner up a base. A strike-out followed. Gneiiting singled home Proctor. Jefferies was held at third. Gneiting stole second. A foul pop-out and a strike-out followed. That ended Schwarz's outing. He went 3.0 innings. 4 ERs. 7 H. 2 BBs, 1 HBP, and 3 SOs.
Orewiler retired the side in-order in the bottom of the eighth. He also pitched the ninth for Blue. After Staab walked on four pitches, Orewiler induced an around the horn double play grounder. A pop-foul to first ended the scrimmage,

Great day for Fall Ball (baseball and football). Owls finally won a football game 65-44 over PVAMU.
In today's scrimmage, Gray beat the Blue squad 3-1 in 6 innings.
Dane Myers and Kendal Jefferies wound up splitting 6 innings for Blue.
Ricardo Salinas pitched the first four for Gray and Evan Kravetz the final two innings for Gray.
Myers started for Blue and walked the lead-off man in the first two innings but held Gray scoreless. In the third inning, Andrew Dunlap opened with a single to right.
With one out, Myers walked Warren and hit Lammons with a pitch to load the bases. Proctor hit a deep sac-fly to score Dunlap. Another fly-out ended Myers day.
Myers pitched 2.2 innings. He gave up a single run (earned). He allowed just the lone single. He walked 3 and hit one batter.
Salinas went the first four innings for Gray. He allowed a lone single to DiCaprio in the second. In the fourth with one out, Myers doubled to deep right-center field. Sarchet followed with a single to right. Myers holding at third. Wunderlich ran for Myers. Dayne scored on a wild pitch Sarchet to second. Another wild pitched moved him to third.
After a strike-out, the inning was called.
Salinas pitched 3.2 innings. He gave up the one earned run. He allowed 3 H. He struck out six and walked none.
Kendal Jefferies relieved Myers in the fourth. Chandler singled to right to lead-off. He stole 2nd and then 3rd. With one out, Staab singled to right and scored Chandler. A strike-out followed. Staab was thrown out in an attempt to steal second.
Tanner singled to left to open the fifth. Three outs followed.
Kravetz relieved Salinas in the fifth. Moss had a one-out single. He was stranded.
In the sixth, Mueller tripled to center-field off Jefferies. Chandler drove him home with another single to right. Chandler was tagged out trying to reach third on a misplayed grounder. A pop-out and strike-out ended the inning.
In his 3.0 innings, Jefferies allowed 2 R (2 ERs), 5 H with 3 SO and no walks.
Kravetz pitched 2 innings. No runs, 1 H, 2 SOs, and no walks.

Fall is here. Should play 2. Gray scored a run in the top of the seventh to win 4-3.
Wunderlich and Gneiting hit back-to-back doubles to start the first for Gray. Rodrigo Duluc made his first hit of the fall a homer to left putting Gray up 2-0.
Blue answered 3 runs in the third. Dunlap singled to left. After a fly out, Frazier reached on an infield error. Dunlap to second. Warren singled Dunlap home. Runners advanced to third and second on the throw home. Jefferies drove them home with a single to center. A fly to center entered the inning.
After 3 innings, Blue was up, 3-2.
In the fourth, Gray tied the game. With one out, Moss walked Myers and Lammons. After a pop out, Brewer singled through the left to score Myers.
With two out in the fourth, Moss reached on an infield single. He stole second. Dunlap walked. Inning called.
After 4, it was 3-3.
Schragger pitched the final three innings for Blue. He retired the side in order in the fifth and allowed just a one out single to Mueller in the sixth.
In the seventh, Lammons had a lead-off walk. Two fielder's choice grounders moved Lammons to third He scored on Staab's hit to right. Staab out attempting to stead second to end the frame.

Another beautiful late summer day found Gray rallying with 2 runs in the top of the seventh inning to grab a draw with the Blue squad today.
Zach Esquivel Started for Blue and Willy Amador for the Gray. Each pitcher had pitch count problems and only pitched through the third inning.
Gray scored one run in the third inning. With one out, Kendall Jefferries reached on an infield error. Ford Proctor dropped a Texas Leaguer into left-center. Jefferries to second. The two runners executed a double steal. Jefferries to third and Proctor to second. Dane Myers walked to load the bases. When Ryan Chandler walked, Jefferies scored. Pitch count ended the frame.
Pitching for Gray, Willy Amador had all three of his innings ended on pitch count.
Blue scored one in the first as Chase Sarchet walked with one out. He stole second. After a line drive to center for the second out, Tristan Gray singled Sarchet home. Inning over.
Robbie Lammons had a single in the second. That inning was also called on pitch count.
Blue added two more in the third. Andrew Dunlap had a lead-off walk. He was forced at second on a fielder's choice grounder to short by Dayne Wunderlich. Wunderlich went to second on a wide throw to first. Sarchet homered to right scoring Wunderlich. Inning over.

Summer continues to have a firm grip on the mid-October weather. Blue held on to win the 10th scrimmage of the fall 8-6.
Nick Orewiler (innings 1-4) and Garrett Gayle (innings 5-8) pitched for Blue. Evan Kravetz (innings 1-4) and Roel Garcia (innings 5-8) pitched for Gray. Each pitcher pitched in 4 innings. None was able to get all three outs in each inning.
The Gray team struck first with Dayne Wunderlich leading off with a walk and scoring after Brad Gneiting's infield single and Ford Proctor's RBI single past the first baseman.
Blue answered with Charlie Warren drawing a lead-off walk. Robbie Lammons dropped a single into right as Warren scampered to third. Lammons took second on the throw to third. Tristan Gray singled to second. Warren scored. Lammons to third. Lammons scored on Ryan Chandler's deep sac-fly to center.
Each team was held scoreless in the second.
Gneiting reached on his second infield hit as he led-off the second. He scored on Chase Sarchet's 2-out triple to right. The inning was called after Kendal Jefferies walked.
Blue answered with two runs off Kravetz. Gray walked. Dane Myers singled to right. Gray took third. Chandler singled Gray home. Myers to second. Dom DiCaprio singled to left. Myers scored. The next batter struck-out. Inning called.

Blue scored twice in the fifth. Gray singled to center. Myers walked. Chandler forced Myers at second. Gray to third on the fielder's choice. Chandler stole second. DiCaprio walked to load the bases. Gray scored once in the sixth. Sarchet doubled to right. He moved to second on a ground out to the right-side. He scored on a wild pitch.
Blue didn't score in the sixth. Warren's two out triple was stranded.
Neither team scored in the seventh. Gneiting had his third hit of the day for Gray and DiCaprio his second.
In the eighth, Gray added two runs on a walk to Mueller, Sarchet was HBP, and Jefferies walked to load the bases. Khevin Brewer's single to right scored Mueller and Sarchet. Inning called.
Blue added one after Cody Staab tripled down the left-field line to lead-off. He scored on Moss's infield ground-out. That ended the scoring. Two more infield grounders ended the scrimmage.

After a warm afternoon the evening turned delightful. Just to make it feel like early spring there was a glare delay in the fifth inning. Blue rallied with 2 outs in the bottom of the eighth to savage a 3-3 tie.

Moss pitched the sixth and seventh innings for Gray. Tatum had a one out double followed by 2 reverse Ks. In the seventh, a fly out was followed by a swinging 2-3 strike out. Gray's bad hop double past first was the last batter on pitch count in the seventh.
Moss allowed no runs on two hits with 3 strike outs.
Wright closed for Gray. After a lead-off walk and a single to right by Chandler, Wright struck out the next two batters and ended the inning on a grounder to third. Wright retired the first two batters in the eight on a ground out to short and a strike out. Warren and Jefferies had a nearly identical eighth inning as they had in the first. Warren singled to right. Jefferies beat out a grounder to the third baseman. Gray completed a three hit day with a single to right that tied the game. A fly to center ended the scrimmage. Wright allowed one run on three hits as he struck out three.
Blue had a 2-0 lead through three innings. They lost the lead in the fourth and were behind 3-2 until the bottom of the eighth at which time they rallied to make it 3-3.
October 3, 2016 - Blue 4, Gray 1
As always the scrimmage was held in perfect baseball weather. In 7 1/2 innings, the Blue team beat the Gray team 4-1.

The Blue pitchers Myers, Garcia, and Orewiler held Gray scoreless in each of their 2 innings of work.
Myers allowed three singles (Gray, Chandler, and Moss) and struck out one.
Garcia gave up a lead-off double to Frazier followed by a walk to Staab. Garcia retired the next six batters. Garcia struck out two.
Orewiler retired all six batters he faced with one SO.
Schragger pitched the final two innings for Blue. After a strike out, DiCaprio doubled to left. He scored on Chandler's single to center. A strike out followed. Chandler stole second and Moss was HBP. Chandler was caught trying to steal third for the third out.
In the eighth, Tatum had a lead-off double but was out trying to stretch it into a triple. Frazier walked. Staab hit a soft liner to second. Frazier was caught stealing.
For the Gray, Salinas gave up a 3-1 count lead-off double to Wunderlich. Lammons moved him to third with a grounder to first. Proctor drove him home with a single to center. Two fly outs followed.
A lead-off walk to Brewer led to another run in the second. Mueller followed with a single. Brewer to third. Duluc drove Brewer home with a sac-fly to right. Sarchet beat out slow grounder to second. Salinas closed out the second with a SO.
Blue was up 2-0 after two innings.
In the third, Esquivel walked the lead-off man Wunderlich. Lammons once again advanced the runner with an infield grounder. Wunderlich moved to third on a passed ball. An infield error allowed Wunderlich to score. A walk followed ending the inning on pitch count.
In the fourth, Esquivel allowed a two infield single before ending the inning on a ground out to second.
Blue was now up 3-0 after four innings.
Gayle pitched the 5th and 6th innings. He gave up a single to Myers after retiring the first 5 batters he faced. A ground out to short ended his outing.
After 6 innings, it was still 3-0 Blue.
Otto pitched the seventh inning for Gray. He walked four, allowed one run.
Schragger got to pitch the eighth as noted above,
