Marlene Bayer Kaplan (1936-2021):
On February 17, Marlene Bayer Kaplan passed away. A native Texan, she graduated from Rice in 1958 where she met her future husband Mallory Kaplan ’57. They raised three children together. After he suddenly passed away in 1982, she remained dedicated to their children and ultimately to six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also, she was involved in her synagogue. Dan Schomer (1937-2021):
On February 5, Dan Schomer passed away. Born in Oklahoma, he graduated from Rice in 1959 with a double major in Accounting and Economics. After military service, he enjoyed a career in accounting, retiring twice. Also, he had a lifelong passion for playing bridge. He is survived by, among others, his brother, Don Schomer MD, who earned a MBA from Rice in 2000. Click here for the obituary.
