To honor celebrated filmmaker and native Texan Wes Anderson, the City of Austin has (temporarily) changed West Anderson Lane to Wes Anderson Lane. Wes is the son of ARA Meritorious Service Award winner (2003) and avid Rice baseball fan Texas Anderson ‘81/’85.

Margaret Sobel (1940-2021):
On September 29, Margaret Sobel passed away. Born in Washington DC, she earned a BA from Smith College in 1962 and a PhD in French Language and Literature from Rice in 1969. While at Rice, she met and married Professor of Architecture Robert Sobel. She “had a number of academic assignments in European literature and languages at Rice and UH, and subsequently in Virginia and Maryland”. Click here for the Chronicle obituary.
