Stephen Gilmartin (1934-2021):
On October 22, Stephen Gilmartin passed away. During his career in Houston, he broadcast Rice Football games. He retired in the early 1990’s. He is survived by, among others, his wife of fifty-nine years, Sherrell. Click here for the Richmond Times-Dispatch obituary

Dr Calvin Class (1924-2021):
On April 14, 2020, Dr Calvin Class, the first master of Jones College, passed away. There was a Rice release at the time. According to an obituary in yesterday’s Chronicle, there will be a memorial service this Saturday, October 30, 1:30 – 3:30 pm, at George H Lewis & Sons Funeral Directors, 1010 Bering Drive.

Dr Damon Wells, Jr CBE (1937-2021):
On October 16, Dr Damon Wells, Jr CBE passed away. A native Houstonian, he was a direct descendant of Samuel Damon and Daniel Boone. He earned a BA from Yale in 1958, a MA from Oxford in 1964 and a PhD from Rice in 1968. He enjoyed a career as an investor (he founded Damon Wells Interests, specializing in mining with emphasis on the United States, Australia and South Africa) and a philanthropist. Shawn Travis:
On September 23, Shawn Travis passed away “unexpectedly of natural causes” at the age of 52. He grew up in Kansas City MO and earned a BA from Rice in 1991, a PhD from Princeton in 1998 and a JD from Harvard Law in 2001. He had a “long and fulfilling career“ at Vanguard in Malvern PA as well as enjoying “a key project” outside of work. He is survived by, among others, his wife Susan and their daughters Eleanor and Beya. Click here for the obituary.
