Yesterday, #5 Tampa Bay (Practice Squad: Nick Leverett) defeated #1 Green Bay, 31-26.  On Sunday, February 7, they will face #1 Kansas City in Super Bowl LV.

Klein Kubiak '14:
After thirty-six seasons as a coach and a player, Gary Kubiak, the father of four-year Rice football letterman Klein Kubiak ’14 (2010-11-12-13) announced his retirement from the NFL yesterday

Myles Adams:
Last Friday, the Seattle Seahawks signed DT Myles Adams to a reserve/future contract.

Cal Varner III:
On Monday, the Houston Chronicle named Rice signee Cal Varner III as High School Boys Athlete of the Week.

Yesterday, Blaze Alldredge tweeted that he is transferring to Missouri. 

State of Texas High School Championship Games:
On Friday, Denton Ryan (Rice signee LB DJ Arkansas) defeated Cedar Park, 59-14, in the Class 5A Division I state championship game.  The win caps a perfect 15-0 season.  
On Saturday, Katy defeated Cedar Hill, 51-14, in the Class 6A Division II state championship game.  With a 15-yard pick six, a sack and 2 tackles for a loss, Rice signee DE Cal Varner III was voted defensive game MVP.  
Also, on Saturday, Austin Westlake defeated Southlake Carroll, 52-34, in the Class 6A Division I state championship game.  The win caps a perfect 14-0 season and prospective Owl DB Michael Taaffe, with 2 interceptions, was voted defensive game MVP.

On Saturday, #2 Buffalo defeated #5 Baltimore (Front Office: OJ Brigance, Corey Frazier), 17-3.
Yesterday, #1 Kansas City defeated #6 Cleveland (Andrew Sendejo), 22-17.  Also, #5 Tampa Bay defeated #2 New Orleans, 30-20.  In a losing effort, Jameis Winston, the husband of former Rice basketball player Breion Allen ’16, threw a 56-yard touchdown pass.

On Friday, Denton Ryan (Rice signee LB DJ Arkansas) defeated Cedar Park, 59-14, in the Class 5A Division I state championship game.  The win caps a perfect 15-0 season.  
Yesterday, Katy defeated Cedar Hill, 51-14, in the Class 6A Division II state championship game.  With a 15-yard pick six, a sack and 2 tackles for a loss, Rice signee DE Cal Varner III was voted defensive game MVP.

Yesterday, #2 Buffalo defeated #5 Baltimore, 17-3.  Interestingly,  four-year Rice football letterman Corey Frazier ’13 (2009-10-11-13) works in the Ravens’ front office as a pro scout while his father Leslie Frazier is the Bills’ defensive coordinator.  Read more. 
And, four-year Rice football letterman OJ Brigance (1987-88-89-90) also works in the Ravens’ front office as Senior Advisor to Player Engagement.  Finally, the starting center for the Bills is Mitch Morse (Missouri ’14).  His mother Catherine Morse and Holly Jones Wright ‘88 were high school basketball teammates and his uncle is Joe Quoyeser ‘84.
