Yesterday, Sam Houston State rallied from a 21-point deficit to defeat James Madison, 38-35, in the semifinals of the FCS playoffs. On May 16 at 1 pm CT, Sam Houston State will play North Dakota State in the championship game at Toyota Stadium in Frisco.
Bearkat AD Bobby Williams Jr, who was a starter at wide receiver for the Owls, has 2 Rice degrees (B.A. in 1981 and a Master of Arts in 1982). His father, the late Bobby Williams Sr., who played both football (he was a member of the 1958 Cotton Bowl team) and baseball for the Owls, graduated from Rice in 1958.

Yesterday, Kylen Granson was drafted by the Colts with the 127th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He played his first two years of college football at Rice before transferring to SMU.
