Sam Houston State Football:
Yesterday, Sam Houston State defeated South Dakota State, 23-21, to win their first FCS national championship.

Bearkat AD Bobby Williams Jr, who was a starter at wide receiver for the Owls, has 2 Rice degrees (B.A. in 1981 and a Master of Arts in 1982).  His father, the late Bobby Williams Sr., who played both football (he was a member of the 1958 Cotton Bowl team) and baseball for the Owls, graduated from Rice in 1958.

The New York Jets have claimed RB Austin Walter after he was waived by the 49ers on May 12.

Sam Houston State Football:
Today at 1 pm CT, Sam Houston State will play South Dakota State in the FCS championship game at Toyota Stadium in Frisco.  The game will be telecast nationally by ABC.  Read more.

Yesterday, Sam Houston State rallied from a 21-point deficit to defeat James Madison, 38-35, in the semifinals of the FCS playoffs.  On May 16 at 1 pm CT, Sam Houston State will play North Dakota State in the championship game at Toyota Stadium in Frisco.
