On Saturday, #6 LA Rams defeated #3 Seattle (Luke Willson), 30-20. Also, #2 Buffalo defeated #7 Indianapolis, 27-24. The starting center for the Bills is Mitch Morse (Missouri ’14). His mother Catherine Morse and Holly Jones Wright ‘88 were high school basketball teammates and his uncle is Joe Quoyeser ‘84.
Yesterday, #5 Baltimore (OJ Brigance) defeated #4 Tennessee, 20-13. Also, #6 Cleveland (Andrew Sendejo) defeated #3 Pittsburgh (Chris Boswell, Vance McDonald), 48-37.

Bob Toone '67:
On January 5, Balmorhea defeated Richland Springs, 74-38, in the Class 1A Division II state championship game in San Angelo Stadium to win their first state championship in school history. Bob Toone, who graduated from Rice in 1967, is a proud Bear.

Cal Varner III:
Yesterday, DE Cal Varner III helped lead Katy to a 63-7 Class 6A Division II semifinal win against Buda Hays to advance to the state championship game on Saturday against Cedar Hill at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Ridge Point Panthers:
After upsetting Atascocita, 55-45, in the third round of the Class 6A Division I playoffs on December 26, Fort Bend Ridge Point lost to two-time defending state champion North Shore, 56-14, in the state quarterfinals yesterday. Nonetheless, this is the first time that the Panthers have advanced to the state quarterfinals since moving to the 6A classification prior to the 2016 season.
The Ridge Point quarterback is junior Bert Emanuel Jr, the son of Bert Emanuel ’94 who was a two-year baseball and football letterman (1992-93) at Rice. Also, sophomore DK Kalu, the son of four-year Rice football letterman ND Kalu ’97 (1993-94-95-96), plays defensive tackle for the Panthers.
