Frank Newman (1931-2025):
On May 1, Frank Newman passed away. Raised in Houston, he earned a BA in Chemistry from Rice in 1953. He met his future wife Mary Eileen Broussard at Rice. He enjoyed a career as a research chemist at Shell, Beckman Instruments and Southwest Research Institute. He is survived by, among others, his son Robert. Click here for the obituary.
Jean Mahavier (1932-2025):
On April 28, Jean Mahavier passed away. A native Texan, she earned a BA in Mathematics from Rice in 1953. In addition to raising two children with her late husband Bill, she supported his career as a professor of mathematics at Emory University in Atlanta. Also, she was dedicated to her family, she loved to travel and she was a talented poet. Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Malcolm Waddell:
On Sunday, Malcolm Waddell passed away after a two-year battle against cancer. He earned a BA in Economics from Rice in 1974 and a MBA from Harvard in 1979. “A beloved husband, father, brother and friend, he will be truly missed”. I will post the obituary when available.
