Trivia Answer:
Rice defeated Colorado 28-14 in the 1938 Cotton Bowl. Future Supreme Court justice Bryon “Whizzer” White threw a TD pass and returned an interception for another TD in a strong effort for the Buffaloes. (Thanks, Tre Fischer!)
Tomorrow at 4:30 pm, Rice plays Colorado in the first round of the NCAA Volleyball Championship in Waco.
Interestingly, another future lawyer played for the Owls in that bowl game. Jim Nance graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Rice in 1938 and enjoyed a forty-one year career with Baker Botts as a trial lawyer and lobbyist. He passed away on November 22, 2009. Click here for the obituary.
