Javier Vasquez, the father of Rice baseball player Javier Vasquez, was a major league pitcher and threw a shutout inning in the 2004 MLB All-Star game.  The family is from Ponce, Puerto Rico where Rice will open their 2025 baseball season vs. Villanova on Friday at the Puerto Rico Challenge.  (Thanks, Chris Kohnhorst and Mike Ross!)
