Jay Cunningham (1925-2021):
On November 9, Jay Cunningham passed away.  Born in Iowa, he entered Rice on the V-12 program, left to serve in WWII and returned to finish his degree in electrical engineering in 1947.  He enjoyed a thirty-two year career with SWB and, after retiring, worked for Warner Amex and Espey, Huston and Associates.  Also, he was very active in his church.  He is survived by, among others, his wife Lucille (they were married in 1949).  Click here for The Dallas Morning News obituary.

Texas High School Volleyball Playoffs:
On Saturday, Bridgeland upset The Woodlands, 3 sets to 2, to advance to the state volleyball tournament for the first time in just the school’s fourth season of varsity play.   Next up, the Bears play Keller in the state semifinals in Garland on Friday.  Coach Volpe’s daughter Alice is a sophomore  librero for the Bears.  Read more.

Dr Huda Zoghbi:
Dr Huda Zoghbi, a member of the Rice Board of Trustees, was the co-recipient of the Lundbeck Foundation 2020 Brain Prize, the largest prize for neuroscience in the world, for her pioneering research on Rett syndrome.  Read more.

David Eagleman '93:
Earlier this month, BrainCheck raised $10 million in new funding to detect and manage cognitive impairment.  The company was cofounded in 2015 by David Eagleman ’93 and Yael Katz.  Read more.

Alex Quoyeser (Brown '15):
Alex Quoyeser, the son of Joe Quoyeser ’84, is part of a group of five former Brown University football players who own twenty-five percent of Hot Rod Charlie through Boat Racing LLC.  On Saturday, November 6, the horse placed 4th at the Breeder’s Cup Classic at Del Mar.

On Friday, November 12, Boat Racing LLC was named 2021 New Owner of the Year, sponsored by 1/ST RACING.  Read more.
