Ada Dean Grundy (1924-2021):
On August 16, Ada Dean Grundy passed away.  A lifelong resident of Houston, she attended Rice (class of 1945) “where she was a member of the Pallas Athene Literary Society and the PALS Women’s Baseball Team and was an honoree at the Archi-Arts Ball”.  She was devoted to her husband of fifty-seven years, the late Thad Grundy, and their family.  Also, she was an avid sportswoman and competitor, she was passionate about art and she was active in the Texas Republican party as well as involved in her church and the community.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

MLB/MiLB Scoreboard Yesterday (Thanks, Steve Brown!):
JT Chargois (2-0, 2.52) pitched a scoreless inning for the Rays and Lucas Luetge (4-1, 3.14) allowed 1 run (earned) in 2 innings for the Yankees.  Tony Cingrani (0-1, 3.60) pitched a scoreless inning for AAA Iowa, Glenn Otto (2-1, 2.70) pitched 5 scoreless innings (1H, 3W, 4K) for the win for AAA Round Rock and Jordan Stephens (2-0, 3.75) pitched a scoreless innings for AAA Columbus.

Brock Holt ( 208) went 2-for-6 with a run and 2 RBI for the Rangers (against his former team the Red Sox).  Trei Cruz (.174) doubled for Lo-A Lakeland.

Rice Public Art:
New art  ‘Seif’ lights up campus (Rice News)

Branden Hookway (1971-2021):
On August 14, Branden Hookway passed away.  After growing up in Ohio, he earned a BA in Art from Valparaiso University in 1993, a Master of Architecture from Rice in 1998 and a PhD in History and Theory of Architecture from Princeton in 2011.  He taught at Cornell and was author of two books.  He is survived by, among others, his wife of fourteen years Maria Park who also taught at Cornell.  Click here for the San Francisco Chronicle obituary.
