Hahn allowed single runs in each of his two innings.

Fant had a scoreless 1-2-3 first inning but in his second inning a dropped pop-up along with two hits, an RBI grounder, a walk, a stolen base and a two-run single produced four unearned runs.

Sultzbaugh had the only extra base hit (a double).

The team did a lot of fielding work before and after BP.  The scrimmage didn't start until 4:50 pm.

February 15, 2010 - Gray 9, Blue 4:

Ratterree returned to the Gray line-up in a big way.  His lead-off HR to deep left-center started a three run rinning for the Gray team.  Manuel followed with a double.  Two walks followed by an RBI FC and another walk and a hit batter resulted in three runs.  Gray would tally three more in the third, one in the fourth, McDowell's solo HR to right-center in the fifth and another solitary run in the sixth.

Blue got a run in the first on Sultzbaugh's first preseason HR.  Simmons hit a two run shot to dead center in the second to tie it at three. Blue scored their final run in the sixth.

Pitchers: For Blue, Gonzales, Haynes and Fant.  For Gray: Benak, Wright and Hahn.

For the Gray team, Benak would allow only one run in his four innings.  He gave up an infield single to Rathjen, then Spurlin doubled him home.

February 5, 2010 - Gray 6, Blue 3:

The game got underway at 3:40 PM with bright sunshine and comfortable temperatures.

Pitchers were Benak, Haynes and Hahn for the Blue.  Wright, Gonzales and Fant for the Gray.

The game went seven innings with Gray (Comerota) beating Blue (Ratterree) 6-3.

Gray opened the scoring in the first.  Seastrunk doubled after one out.  He was cut down going to third on Fuda's infield grounder to short.  Mike scored on Sultzbaugh's triple to center.

Blue scored two runs in the bottom of the first.  Ratterree opened with a double to left.  He moved to third on Hague's fly to center.  Manuel plated Rick with a sac-fly to left.  Rendon crushed a 3-2 fastball over the berm in left.  His first extra-base of the preseason.

The score would remain 2-1 Blue until Gray tied it in the sixth when Fuda tripled and scored on a sac-fly by Mozingo. Travis Wright and Abe Gonzales retired 13 in a row for the Gray.

Gray would get 4 runs in the seventh on 2 walks, a hit-batter, 2 singles and a two run double by Seastrunk.

Blue got one in the bottom of the inning on four walks.

February 3, 2010 - Blue 4, Gray 2:

Owls managed to squeeze in 4.5 innings today.  Weather was cold and breezy but rain didn't get too bad until the fifth inning.  Pitchers today were Boogie and Duffey (3 innings), Spurlin (2) and Reckling (1).  Think they all had a difficult time getting loose.

Hague put the Blue (Ratterree) team on top with a solo shot to left in the bottom of the first.  A couple of singles were stranded on base.

Gray (Comerota) got even in the top of the second.  Mozingo walked and went to third on Perrott's single to left.  Chad scored on Lewis's FC grounder to Hague that forced Geoff.

Blue went back up on a fielding error, a walk, a passed ball and a wild pitch.

Blue scored again in the third when Rendon walked and moved to second on a passed ball. Gonzales doubled into the right-field corner scoring Rendon.

Gray scored one run in the fifth after two walks, a wild pitch, a FC grounder to first.  Another runner was cut down at the plate on a fly out to left and a tag-out at home after a good throw from D G-L.

February 2, 2010 - Gray 1, Blue 1:

Today's scrimmage was highlighted by good pitching and great defense.  The final score was a 1-1 tie after 8.5 innings.

Sultzbaugh had another great day in center-field.  Rathjen also made a good play in center.  Rendon had a great stop at third. Ratterree made another defensive gem on a grounder up the middle.  Simmons also made a great recovery and throw-out on a hard hit come-backer.

The pitchers worked out of trouble.  There were 12 strike-outs and 5 walks and two ground-ball DPs.

Wall, Rogers, Cingrani, Fazio and Simmons worked three innings each. Evers pitched two innings.

Extra base hits were a double by Comerota (a hustling double to center) and a double to right-center by Rathjen.  Nobody had more than one hit.

Tomorrow's scrimmage looks doubtful but I'll know more after 2:00 PM.

January 31, 2010 - Gray 3, Blue 1:

The weather hasn't warmed up any for these January scrimmages.  Maybe February will be warmer.

Several players got to play different positions today.  Seastrunk played third, Fuda second, Simmons in left and Gonzales-Luna played right.

The pitchers today were McDowell, Wright and Hahn for Blue and Benak and McNair for Gray.

The offense was limited today with good pitching and great outfield play by Sultzbaugh.

Gray (Ratterree) team was held scoreless through the first three innings.   In the third, Rendon and Lewis had reached on singles with no outs.  Rathjen flew out to left.  Simmons ripped a ball to deep right-center that Sultzbaugh got a great jump on and ran down for the second out.  A tremendous defensive play.  Gonzales-Luna struck out to end the threat.

Blue (Comerota) scored its only run in the first on Comerota's 3-2 double to the left-field corner. Jimmy moved to third on Seastrunk's fly to center. Jimmy scored on Sultzbaugh's hard single past Rendon at third.

Gray got the fourth inning started with when Manuel walked.  Hague and Rendon followed with singles.  Manuel scored on Rendon's hit.  A Simmons double into the right-field corner plated Hague and Rendon.

Blue had the potential for an offensive inning in the fourth when Gonzales was HBP and Maxwell singled to right with two out.  Abe was cut down trying to go to third on a nice throw from Gonzales-Luna.

In the fifth Ratterree tripled with two out. He was stranded on an infield ground out.

Blue had a lead-off walk erased on a 6-4-3 DP.  Another walk was erased on a pick-off.

There was a decent crowd but I think we were all happy to see it end after 5.5 innings.

January 30, 2010 - Blue 4, Gray 3:

After watching the Lady Owls fight hard to win their fourth straight conference home game (final Owls 63, Tulsa 56), I made it for the last 2 innings of the scrimmage.  Alan provided the scorecard for the first 5 innings.

The pitchers today were Anagnostou, Reckling and Duffey for Blue and Spurlin, Haynes and Gonzales for Gray.

Gray failed to score in the first three innings.  Blue pushed home a run in the second when Rendon singled, stole second and then third.  He scored on a Sac Fly by McDowell.

Gray scored two in the fifth by leading off with a Gonzales single and a Gonzales-Luna double.  After a fly ball and throw out at home plate DP,  Gonzales-Luna scored when an error allowed Spurlin to reach base.  Tyler would score when Crain doubled and the ball was bobbled in the outfield and on the relay.

Gray scored their final run in the top of the seventh when Sultzbaugh hit a pop double between three players.  He moved to third on a WP and scored on a Sac Fly by Simmons.

Going to the bottom of the seventh, Blue had only two singles (Ratterree and Rendon).  Manuel got his first hit of the spring with a single through the right-side.  Hague hit a deep shot to left-center for a two run HR to tie the game.  Rendon walked.  Stole second.  After a strike-out, he scored on Rathjen's single.

Blue wins 4-3.

January 29, 2010 - Gray 8, Blue 4:

My hands have almost revived.  Just a little tingling sensation on the tips of my fingers as I type.

The Gray team scored 4 in the first inning.  Mike Ratterree lead off with a single.  Three walks were sandwiched around a Hague strike out and Craig Manuel getting picked off second base.  Jeremy Rathjen drove home three on a bases clearing triple.  Jeremy would score on Chase McDowell's double.

Gray added two more in the second on a walk to J. T. Chargois (the first of his three on the day), an error on a pick-off attempt sending him to second where he would score on Ratterree's double to right.  Ratterree would score after advancing on Manuel's grounder to the right-side and an infield error allowing Hague to reach base.  Rendon had a single later in the inning.

Blue got two back on Perrott's HR off the light pole in left.

Gray would add a single run in the third when Jeremy reached on an infield error.  Advanced to second on a walk to SpurlinJeremy stole third and scored on a passed ball.  Gray added another run on back to back singles by Hague and Rendon and a well executed double steal.

Blue scored twice in the fifth on consecutive hits by Comerota, Mozingo, Fuda (double), and Seastrunk (a pop up that fell just fair between the catcher and pitcher).
