November 15, 2017 - Gray 4, Blue 0 (8-1/2 innings)

With broken clouds and pleasant temperatures, a trio of Gray pitchers (Jackson Parthasarathy, Roel Garcia and Kel Bordwine) held Blue to two hits and no runs today to post a 4-0 win in the fall's last scrimmage.

Gray scored two runs in the sixth inning.  Jefferies singled to start the rally.  Sarchet walked.  Osburn grounded out to first.  Each runner advanced a base.  Duluc singled to center for 2 RBI as Jefferies and Sarchet scored.  A fly out followed.  Inning over on pitch count. 

Gray added two more runs in the eighth.  Osburn singled to center.  Duluc grounded to third.  All runners were safe as the throw to second wasn't caught.  Osburn to third.  Duluc reached first.  Tatum singled. Osburn scored.  Duluc to second.  A fly out to right and a strikeout followed.  Chandler singled through the right side of the infield.  Duluc scored.  Tatum to second.  Pitch count ended the rally. 

Other Gray hits were singles by Weyler and Chandler in the third inning and an infield hit to third by Gneiting in the fifth. 

Blue hits were a double by Comeaux in the fifth.  The first hit of the day off Gray pitching.  Cox singled to center in the sixth.  That was it.

November 13, 2017 - Blue 3, Gray 1 (6 innings)

It was beautiful weather with a picture perfect sunset today as Blue scored 3 in the second to take down Gray 3-1.

Silber pitched the first four innings for Blue. 

Gray's first inning saw Gneiting walk on four pitches.  After a pop foul out to first, the inning ended on a double play grounder to short.  Gneiting was forced by the shortstop at second.  The throw to first completed the double play. 

Gray had a single in the second inning by Sarchet to center.  He was eliminated on a 6-4-3 DP. 

In the third, Gray had Gneiting and Weyler single in succession with two outs.  A fly to right ended the inning.

In the fourth, Osburn reached on a HBP with two out.   A strikeout ended the frame. 

Lewis started for Gray and pitched the first three innings. 

Comeaux was hit by Lewis's first pitch.  He was called out attempting to steal second.  Proctor walked with two outs.  A fly to left ended the first. 

In the second, Blue scored three runs.  Cox reached second on an infield throwing error.  He took third on an errant pick-off throw to second.  With one out, Brewer singled to center.  Cox scored.  Comeaux doubled to left center.  Brewer to third.  Moss's single to center scored BrewerComeaux to third.  Proctor singled home Comeaux Moss scampered to third.  A pop out was the last play of the inning. Called on pitch count. 

In the third, Cox singled to center.  He was picked off first.  Two strikeouts followed to close the stanza.   

Schragger pitched the fourth for Gray. Comeaux singled to left.  Moss singled him to second.  Proctor laid down a perfect sac-bunt to move the runners to 3rd and 2nd.  Collins walked to load the bases.  Schragger struck out the next batter and got a fly out to end his day. 

After 4 innings, Blue was in the lead 3-0. 

Gayle pitched the fifth for Blue.  Tatum singled to center start the inning.  Gayle struck out the next two batters.  Chandler hit a ball to deep center.  Tatum scored on the triple.  A fly out ended the inning. 

Garcia pitched the sixth for Blue.  He walked the lead-off hitter SarchetSarchet advanced to second on a failed pick-off attempt.  A fly out followed.  A wild pitch sent Sarchet to third.  Garcia struck out the final two batters. 

Esquivel pitched two solid innings for Blue.  Brewer reached on an infield single to the right side.  After that Esquivel retired the next three batters on two fly balls and a strikeout.  In the sixth he sandwiched a nice pitcher to first ground out between two strikeouts.

Today's squad game was interrupted by rain after playing a little over four innings.  Gray posted 6 runs as Blue was shutout.

Moss pitched an excellent game.  He had one strikeout in the first, two in the second, two more in the third and three in the fourth.   Weyler had both hits off Moss

In the first, Gray scored 2 runs.  Comeaux singled to center.  With one out, Proctor doubled down the left field line.  Comeaux to third.  Cox singled to right center.  Comeaux and Proctor scored.  Sarchet singled to right.  Cox took third.  Inning called. 

Gray failed to score in the second and third innings. 

In the fourth, Gray added four more runs.  Comeaux reached on an infield hit. His third single of the day.  Jefferies followed with his second single of the day.  Proctor bunted.  All runners were safe on a fielding error.  After a strikeout, Sarchet singled to right.   Comeaux and Jefferies scored.  Proctor to third and Sarchet to second on the throw home.  Brewer tripled to the left center field gap.  Proctor and Sarchet scored.  Inning called. 

Esquivel started the fifth for Blue.  After two pop outs, the skies opended up and the game was called.

November 6, 2017 - Gray 1, Blue 0 (7 innings)

It was a beautiful night under the lights for the scrimmage.  Gray's pitching threesome of Nick Silber, Roel Garcia and Ben Schragger shut out Blue on five scattered hits tonight.

The Blue pitchers (Kendal Jefferies, Garrett Gayle and Brent Schwarz) were solid also in giving up just one run on five hits.

Gray tallied the only run of the night in the second inning.  Dane Acker doubled to left to open the inning.  He was held at second on a ground out to short.  Parker Osburn singled to left.  Acker moved to third.  Osburn stole second as the batter struck out.   Brad Gneiting singled to left.  Acker scored.  Osburn to third.  The inning ended on a double steal attempt.  With Gneiting in a pickle between first and second, Osburn raced for home.  He was tagged out at the plate. 

The other two Gray hits were Ryan Chandler's single in the first and Chad Tatum's single in the fifth. 

For Blue, Braden Comeaux had two hits.  A first inning single and a double in the third.  Dominic Cox singled in the second.  Khevin Brewer singled in the sixth and Chace Sarchet doubled with two out in the seventh. 

Each squad turned an infield grounder into a double play. 

Next squad scrimmage is Wednesday. 

November 4, 2017 - Blue 5, Gray 3 (9 innings)

It was a pleasant day when we were blessed with cloud cover.  Warm and muggy when we weren't.

Blue scored three in the seventh to overtake Gray and win today's nine inning scrimmage by 5-3.

Gray scored in the first.  Comeaux opened with a single.  He advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a two out single by Collins.  

Gray added a run in the second on a homer by Cox.

Blue tied the game at 2-2 in the second when Osburn homered to score FrazierFrazier doubled to start the inning.

Gray took the lead in the third.  Comeaux singled with one out. Advanced on a passed ball.  With two out, Proctor singled to score Comeaux

After three, it was 3-2 Gray.   

The score remained 3-2 until Blue rallied for three in the bottom of the seventh. 

Tatum drew a walk with one out.  Gneiting singled to right on a high bouncer.  Tatum alertly going to third.  Weyler scored Tatum on a sac-fly to left. Chandler tripled to deep center.  Gneiting scored.  Moss beat out an infield single to score Chandler.  That was it for the inning and the scoring on the day.

Each team turned a nice infield double play.  Orewiler made three excellent catches in left field. 

October 31, 2017 - Blue 5, Gray 3 (7+ innings)

It wasn't hot.  It wasn't cold.  It was however periodically wet.  The teams managed to get in 7 plus innings of fall ball.  Play again on Friday. 

Blue pecked its way to a 5-3 win.  

Blue built up a 5-0 by scoring a single runs in the third inning and fourth innings.  They followed with two runs in the fifth and one in the seventh. 

Gray finally got on the board with 3 runs in the top of the eighth. 

In the third, Gneiting reached second on an infield error.  After Gneiting moved to third on a wild pitch, Weyler singled to right to plate Gneiting.  Chandler single to center.  Inning ended on a 6-4-3 double play. 

In the fourth, Acker walked to start the inning.  Duluc singled him to second. Acker was forced at third on attempted sac-bunt by Osburn.  Duluc and Osburn each moved up a base on a wild pitch.  Tatum singled to center.  Duluc scored.  Osburn out at the plate 8-2.  A fly out ended the rally.   

In the fifth, Blue scored twice.  With one out, Chandler singled on a hit back at the pitcher.  Acker walked.  Chandler to second.  Duluc singled to left to load the bases.  Osburn singled to center.  Chandler scored.     

Bases still loaded.  Tatum got an RBI on a fielder's choice force at second.  A fly out ended the rally. 

In the seventh, Blue added one more run.  Osburn walked to lead-off.  Tatum singled to right.  Gneiting singled to center.  Osburn scored.  Tatum to third and Gneiting to second on the throw. Tatum tagged out at third on a ground ball.  A pop out ended the seventh. 

Gray scored three in the eighth.  Comeaux reached on an infield error.  Jefferies was HBP.  Two runs scored on a throwing error on the bunt attempt.  Proctor to second. Collins reached on an infield single.   Proctor to third.  Sarchet doubled to the right center alley.  Proctor scored. Inning called.

On another beautiful October afternoon, Gray scores 3 runs in the first and 1 run in the seventh to take today's scrimmage 4-1 over Blue.

Gneiting 1 triple and 1 run and 1 SB.  Weyler 3 singles with 2 runs, 1 RBI. and a SB.  Chandler a double and a single with 1 run.  DiCaprio 2 singles, 2 RBI, 2 walks.  Sarchet a single and an RBI.  Duluc a double.  Jefferies a single.  

Blue Offense: 

Moss a walk.  Proctor 1 walk, 1 single, and 1 SB.  Brewer 1 double and 1 RBI.  Collins had a single.  Acker a double and HBP. 

The Rice soccer team plays Charlotte 10 am CT Wednesday morning in the C-USA soccer tournament in Boca Raton, Florida.  Go Owls. 

October 27, 2017 - Gray 8, Blue 2 (7 innings)

The Gray offense erupted for 8 runs on 14 hits today.  Dom DiCaprio went 4 for 4 on the day with a triple and 3 RBI. Gray pitching held Blue to 2 runs on 6 hits. The Blue team's Kendal Jefferies hit a HR and a double.

The two squads combined for 20 hits and 10 runs on the day. 

Larzabal started for Blue going the first four innings. 

Canterino pitched the first four for Gray. 

Gray failed to score in the first.  With two outs, Chandler doubled to right but was thrown trying for third. 

Blue got a two out single from Proctor.   All three outs were Ks. 

In the second, Gray opened as DiCaprio reached on an infield single.  A pop out and a strikeout followed.  DiCaprio stole second on the strikeout. Duluc singled through the left side.  DiCaprio scored.  A grounder forced Duluc at second to end the inning.   

For Blue, Frazier reached on a wind-aided double with one out.  A fly and strikeout ended the second. 

Gray 1-0 after 2. 

In the third inning, Tatum doubled to left.  Gneiting singled to center. Tatum scored.  Gneiting was picked off first.  Weyler walked.  Chandler laid down a bunt and was out on a close play at first.  Weyler took second.  DiCaprio drove Weyler home with a single to center.  Dom was out at second when the trhow home was cutoff and thrown to second to to tag him out.  Two runs for the inning.

Jefferies homered to left with two outs.  A fly ended the Blue at bat. 

Gray up 3-1 after 3. 

In the fourth, Collins walked with one out.  Blue turned a 6-4-3 double play to end the frame. 

Canterino retired Blue in order in the fourth.

Still Gray 3-1.

Hellums pitched the fifth and sixth for Blue and Gayle for the Gray. 

In the fifth, Osburn had a lead-off single.  He was stranded as the next three batters made outs. 

In the bottom of the fifth with one out, Acker reached on a wind aided infield double.  He moved to third on a balk.  An unassisted ground out to first kept Acker at third.  An infield ground out ended the inning.   

Gray 3-1 after 5 innings. 

With one out in the sixth, DiCaprio got his third straight single.  Moss doubled to left.  DiCaprio to third.  Collins followed with a two run single up the middle.  Collins moved to second on the throw.  Duluc singledto left center.  Collins to third.  Osburn scored Collins on a sac-fly to right.  Duluc to second on the throw home.  Inning called.  Three runs scored. 

In Blue's half of the sixth sixth, Jefferies doubled to left to open the frame.  Proctor singled to center to score the run.  A fly to right was followed by a 4-6-3 double play.  Inning over with one run scored. 

Gray upped their lead to 6-2.

In the seventh, Tatum singled to left. Tatum caught stealing second.  Gneiting walked.  Weyler singled to right.  Gneiting out at third.  Weyler advanced to second on the throw.  Chandler HBP.  DiCaprio tripled over the center fielder's head.  Weyler and Chandler scored.  Inning called. 

Gray scored 2 runs.

Lewis retired the side in order.

Another fabulous day for baseball in Houston. 

Gray scored single runs in the second and third innings to win 2-1 in 5 1/2 innings.

Acker went the first four innings for Gray.  4.0 innings.  No runs, 3 hits, 1 walk and 1 hit batter with one strikeout. 

Schwarz relieved for Blue in the fifth and pitched in two innings.   2.0 innings.  No runs. 1 hit,  no walks and 1 hit batter with 2 strikeouts. 

Schragger pitched the fifth for Gray.  1.0 innings.  One ER, one hit, one walk, and no strikeouts. 

Gray scored in the second.  Cox doubled to center.  Sarchet walked.  The bunt attempt forced Cox at third.  Sarchet to second .  The batter to first. Brewer drove home Sarchet with a single to center. The runner on first was tagged out at third.  A pop up ended the rally. 

In the third, Gray scored one more run.  Acker walked. Comeaux reached on an infield error.  Acker moved up base.  An infield pop out was the first out.  Proctor singled to the left center field gap.  Acker scored.  Comeaux to third.  Pitch count ended the inning. 

Gray would not score in the fifth or sixth.  Jefferies had a one out single to left in the sixth.  Cox was HBP with two outs. An Infield out ended the sixth. 

Blue would get the first two batters on base in the second.  DiCaprio reached on an infield single.  Moss walked.  The runners moved up a base on a grounder back to the pitcher.   Batter forced at first.  A pop up and ground out ended the frame. 

Blue had back-to-back singles by Gneiting and Weyler with one out in the third.  A well executed 3-6-1 double play ended the third inning. 

Collins reached first on a HBP with two outs in the fourth.  He was stranded. 

In the fifth, Gneiting walked with two outs.  Weyler singled to left.  Gneiting got a great jump and scored.  Weyler took second on the throw home. An unassisted ground out to first ended the fifth for Blue. 

Final was Gray 2, Blue 1 in 5 1/2 innings.

October 24, 2017 - Gray 5, Blue 1 (7 innings)

I bet they wish they had this weather in LA tonight for the start of the World Series.

Gray won today with a three run fourth and a two run sixth to best Blue 5-1 in seven innings.

Parthasarathy and Bordwine kept it scoreless through the first three innings. 

In the top of the fourth, Gray scored three runs.  With one out, Acker doubled to left.  Acker took third on a fly to right.  Duluc walked.  Duluc broke for second. The defense tried to get him.  When Acker went home, the throw was late to the plate.  Duluc took second on the double steal.  Tatum singled Duluc home.  Tatum stole second.  He scored on Gneiting's single to center.  Inning called. 7   

Blue failed to score in the fourth.

Neither team scored in the fifth off the new pitchers (Bordwine for Blue and Garcia for Gray).

In the sixth, Bordwine walked Osburn to lead-off.  Duluc then hit a full count pitch over the fence to the right of the third flag pole.  The inning was called after Tatum and Gneiting each singled. 

Blue would tally a single run in the sixth as Cox walked versus Garcia. Cox moved to second on a balk.  Proctor doubled off the left center field fence.  Cox scored.  Two outs followed.  Inning called. 

Bordwine yielded a double to Weyler to start the seventh.  The fly outs ended the frame. 

Zach Esquivel made his initial pitching performance of the fall.   He hit Tanner with his first pitch.  A fly out and an infield fielder's choice forced TannerBrewer singled.  Collins took second.  Duluc caught the infield pop up to the right of the pitcher's mound to end the scrimmage.

It was a gorgeous day at Reckling Park today as Gray beat Blue 3-1 in 6 1/2 innings.

Nick Silber went 4.0 innings, no runs, 3 hits, 3 Ks, and no walks.  Blair Lewis was next with 2.0 innings, 1 hit, 1 ER, 2 Ks, and no walks. 

In the first inning, Gray sent five batters to the plate.  Four of them had singles.  Comeaux reached on an infield single.  Moss dropped a flare into center.  A 4-6-3 double play erased Moss as Comeaux reached third.  Aviles singled Comeaux home.  Cox beat out a grounder to third.  Aviles was tagged out on the return throw from first to third to end the rally. 

Gneiting singled to center for Blue in the first.  He was eliminated on a 6-4-3 double play.  An infield ground out ended the first. 

1-0 Gray; 

In the second, Gray went down in order.  Blue had a runner reach on an infield error after two fly-outs.  Brewer made a nice catch on a short pop-up to right. 

Still 1-0 Gray. 

Following baseball tradition, the player making a great defensive play leads-off in the following Brewer came to bat.  He launched the first pitch deep over the left-field fence for his first HR of the fall.  Acker singled to short.   Two pop foul outs and a ground-out to short ended the frame. 

Silber struck out the side in the third. 

Gray leads 2-0 after 3. 

In the fourth with one out, Frazier walked.  Collins laced a double to left.  Frazier to third.  A pop foul and a strikeout ended the threat. 

Gneiting reached on an infield single.  He was picked off first by Silber.  A fly out was followed by a single off the pitcher's foot.  Another fly ball out ended the first four innings. 

2-0 Gray after 4. 

Gray went down on an infield grounder and two strikeouts in the top of fifth.

Blue went down in order.  Two ground-outs and a strikeout. 

2-0 Gray after 5. 

In the sixth, Gray scored without a hit.  Proctor walked.  Went to second on an errant pick-off throw.  A strikeout followed.  Proctor took third on a passed ball. Frazier reached on his second walk.  Proctor scored and Frazier reached second on a wild pitch.  A pop up to second was the second out.  Frazier stole third.  A strikeout ended Gray's sixth.   

In Blue's sixth, the first batter struck out.  An infield ground out to third followed. Jefferies followed with his first homer of the fall.  Another dive over the fence in left. A pop to short ended the inning. 

3-1 Gray after 6. 

Schragger pitched a perfect seventh for Blue with two strikeouts. 

Final was Gray 3, Blue 1.

Behind the solid pitching of Matt Canterino, Blair Lewis and Garrett Gayle, the Gray squad posted a 3-1 victory today.

Larszabal pitched  the first four innings for Blue.  He allowed 3 ERs on eight hits, one walk with two strikeouts. 

In the first inning, Gray scored two runs on Gneiting's lead-off double.  He was moved to third on a sac-bunt.  Chandler singled him home.  After Chandler stole second, DiCaprio singled to left.  Chandler was safe at home.  DiCaprio took second on the throw.  Sarchet walked.   An around the horn double play ended the inning.

The second was a 1-2-3 inning. 

In the third, Tatum and Gneiting each singled to left.  With runners at first and second ,an attempted sacrifice bunt failed as Tatum was out at third.  Amid some confusion, Gneiting tried to reach third but he was tagged out at third also.  Weyler who had bunted remained at first.  He stole second but was stranded on a ground-out to first. 

Gray added another run in the fourth.  DiCaprio singled through the left-side.  Sarchet singled to right  DiCaprio safe at third.  Sarchet followed to second on the throw.  Osburn singled to center,  DiCaprio scored.  Sarchet advanced to third.  Osburn was picked-off first by Larszabal.   A strikeout ended the fourth.

Canterino faced Blue for four innings.  He allowed 1 run, no ER, two hits, no walks with seven strikeouts.

In the first, Comeaux singled to center.  After a deep fly out to left, Comeaux was caught stealing.  The next batter struck-out. 

Canterino retired the side in order in the second and third.   

The fourth started with Canterino's sixth strikeout of the day.  Comeaux doubled to the left-field wall.  A hard ball off an infielder's glove scored Comeaux.  a pop foul out and the seventh strikeout ended the fourth. 

Gray leads 3-1. 

Garcia pitched the fifth and sixth for Blue.  In his outing, he pitched 2 innings with no runs, no hits, one walk and three strikeouts.   

Lewis pitched a scoreless fifth for Gray.  No runs, one hit, one walk and two strikeouts. 

Gayle pitched the sixth for Gray.  No runs, one hit, one walk.  Brewer opened the sixth with a single to right.  He was forced at second on a grounder by ComeauxComeaux stole second and took third on a ground out to second.  Proctor walked.  Gayle picked him off first to end the sixth.

Schragger pitched the seventh for Blue.  He gave up no runs on two hits with a strikeout.  Tanner singled to center.  He advanced on a passed ball.  Osburn singled to left.  Tanner to third.  Osburn was caught stealing.  Tanner held. A ground out to second ended the scrimmage.

I hurried off to watch the Rice Women Volleyball Team beat UTSA 3-2 in another exciting 5 set match.  VB plays again at 1:00 PM on Sunday in the Dig Pink game against UTEP.

Moss walked to lead-off the third.  Moss to second on a fielder's choice grounder to the right-side.  Moss would score on an infield error. 

In the fourth, Aviles singled to center.  Blue turned a nice 5-4-3 DP to eliminate the runner for the first two outs.  A fly to center ended the inning and Acker's outing.

A new and improved Evan Kravetz pitched today for Gray.  Kravetz retired the side in order in the first and second.   

Osburn walked to start the third.  Kravetz picked him off first.  Two ground outs followed.

In the fourth, Acker broke up a double no-hitter.  Kravetz had one going through three innings of today's scrimmage and this was Acker's first hit of the fall.  Gray turned  a 4-6-3 double play.  Weyler singled off Kravetz's boot.  A ground out to first ended the inning. 

Kravetz pitched 4.0 innings.  No runs, two hits, one walk and one K.  There were seven  ground balls and two fly outs.    

Gray was up 2-0 after four. 

Hellums relieved Acker in the firth.  Collins reached on an infield hit and took second on the wild throw to first.  Three outs followed.  No runs.

In the sixth, Jefferies singled to left with one out.  Aviles singled to left with two outs.  Jefferies to third.  A grounder to third ended the inning.

Hellums pitched 2.0 innings. No runs, three hits and no walks or strikeouts.

Schwarz pitched the fifth and sixth for Blue. 

Gray tallied one run in the fifth.  With one out, Sarchet reached on an infield hit.  He advanced to second on a wild pitch.  Moved to third on a ground-out to the right-side.  Scored on another wild pitch.  Two outs followed.

In the sixth, Gray scored another run.  Duluc started the inning with a walk.  An out followed. He stole second and third.  Gneiting hit a sac-fly to score Duluc.  When Weyler walked, the game was called.   

Schwarz pitched 1.2 innings.  Two ERs, one hit, three walks and two strikeouts.

Another cloudless Houston sky over the Medical Center backdrop to Reckling Park provided great baseball weather again today.  Blue tallied 2 in the first and 3 more in the third to win 5-2 in 6 1/2 innings.

Gayle pitched the fifth and sixth innings for Gray. Gayle pitched 1.2 innings.  No runs, no hits, three walks and one strikeout.

It was an absolutely beautiful day for baseball.

Silber pitched three shutout innings after that.  Chandler and DiCaprio hit back-to-back two out singles in the third.  A strikeout stranded them.   

After four innings, Blue was in the lead 2-1. 

Lewis finished the last two innings for Blue.  He allowed no runs with 1 walk, 1 hit and with 2 strikeouts. Staab doubled in the fifth.  

In his first outing of the fall, Roel Garcia pitched a scoreless fifth for Gray.  No runs, no hits, and one walk. 

In his fifth outing of the fall, Schragger allowed no runs with a strikeout.  He allowed a lead-off single to DiCaprio.  A fly to center and two strikeouts stranded the runner. 

The final was Blue 2 Gray 1 in 6 innings.

Blue tallied twice in the third.  Weyler reached on an infield single.  An infield error allowed Chandler to reach first.  Weyler to second.  DiCaprio's RBI single to right scored Weyler. Chandler went to third and scored on a throwing error.   DiCaprio to second on the errant throw.  He was stranded as a pop-out and two strikeouts followed. 

In the fourth, Duluc singled with one out.  A failed pick-off sent him to second.  He stole third and scored on the throw past third into left.  A strikeout and ground-out ended the inning. 

In his outing, Kravetz gave up 6 runs, 4 ERs with 4 strikeouts.  One hit batter and no walks. He pitched 3.2 innings.

Larzabal finished the final 3 innings for Gray.    He pitched 3 innings . He gave up a single by Duluc (his third of the day), one walk and one strikeout.

Garrett Gayle pitched in two innings for Blue.  1.2 innings.  He allowed no runs,  walked two and struck-out two.  Tanner had the only hit.  A single to center.

Mason Hellums relieved him in the seventh.  Hellums pitched a scoreless inning.  Aviles had a lead-off single for his second hit of the day and the only hit off Hellums.  He walked one.

In the third and fourth innings, there were one out doubles.  Gneiting doubled to right in the fourth.  Sarchet did the same in the fourth.  Each was stranded as two outs followed.

With two outs, in the sixth Osburn doubled to left.   A strikeout ended the frame. 

Bordwine allowed 1 ER on 3 hits with one walk in 2 innings of work.

Schragger pitched the fifth and sixth for Gray. 

In the fifth, Moss doubled to left and advanced to third on a wild pitch.  

In the sixth, Proctor walked on four pitches.  Schragger picked another man off first to eliminate Proctor. Two left-field flies ended the affair.

Schragger allowed no runs on a hit and a walk.

Final 2-2. 

October 12, 2017 - Blue 4, Gray 0 (4 innings)

Summer was back.  Thankfully it was a quick scrimmage today.  Blue rallied late to win 4-0. 

Addison Moss pitched four perfect innings for Blue.  Moss struck out 2, retired 3 on outfield flies, 4 on infield pop-ups and 3 on infield ground-outs in 4.0 innings. 

Blair Lewis pitched for Gray and shutout Blue through 3 innings.   

Lewis retired the side in order in the first. 

In the second, Cox singled with one out.  He was picked off first by Lewis.  Frazier reached on an infield single.  An infield grounder forced Frazier for the third out. 

In the third inning, Staab singled to center to lead-off.  Lewis then retired the next three batters on a strikeout and two fly-outs. to close the third inning. 

With the score 0-0 going to the bottom of the fourth, Blue rallied. 

Cruz reached on an infield single. Proctor drew a full count walk.  Cruz to second.  Cruz stole third as Proctor followed to second.   Aviles lined a single to right after the stolen bases.   Cruz and Proctor scored.  Aviles moved to second on a passed ball.  A fly out was the first out of the inning.  Cox bunted for a single.  The throw to first was wild.  Aviles scored on the throwing error.  Cox to second.   Cox stole third and scored on a sac-fly by Collins

Lewis pitched 3.2 innings with 4 runs, 2 ER, 6 hits, one walk and one strikeout.

As the weather approached fall temps today the Gray squad tallied one run in the top of the seventh to take today's fall scrimmage 2-1.

For Blue, Kendal Jefferies pitched 4 shutout innings today.  He allowed 4 hits, walked one and had 2 strikeouts. 

Comeaux led off the first with a single to center.  He was picked-off first.  Cruz followed with a single through the left side of the infield.  Blue turned a full count grounder into a 4-6-3 double play to end the first.   

Gray got a one out single to left from Frazier.  After a strikeout, Tanner dropped a single into center.  Frazier held at second.  The frame ended on an infield fielder's choice.   

Gray was retired in order in the third.  In the fourth, Proctor walked with one out.  Blue turned another double play to end inning and Jefferies day. 

For Gray, Nick Silber pitched 4 innings.  His line was one run, no ER, 4 hits and 3 strikeouts.   

Silber retired Blue in order in the first. In the second, Sarchet singled to center with one out.  An around the horn double play ended the inning. 

Duluc singled to center to lead-off the third.  Silber picked him off first.  A  strikeout and grounder to third ended the third.

With one out in the fourth, Gneiting singled to left.  An errant pick-off throw got past the first baseman. Gneiting scampered to third. Weyler's single to center scored Gneiting.  The frame ended on a 4-6-3 double play.

After 4 innings, Blue was in the lead 1-0. 

Garrett Gayle relieved in the fifth and pitched in 2 innings.  He allowed one earned run on 3 hits with one strikeout, 2 walks and one hit batter. 

In the fifth, Cox started things with a walk.  After a strikeout, Cox stole second.  Tanner singled to center to score CoxStaab followed with a single and when Brewer was HBP the inning was called on pitch count. 

The sixth began with two quick outs.  Cruz walked.  Proctor singled to center.  Cruz to third.  Proctor stole second.  A fly to right ended the inning and Gayle's outing.

Mason Hellums pitched the fifth and sixth for Gray.  Hellums faced 6 batters.  His line was no runs, no hits, 2 walks and no strikeouts.  He picked-off one, had one caught stealing  and had four fly outs. 

In the fifth, DiCaprio walked and was picked-off.  A pop-out to second followed.  Osburn walked and was caught stealing to end the fifth. 

In the sixth, the side was retired on two flies to left and one to center. 

After 6, it was tied 1-1. 

Ben Schragger relieved for Blue in the seventh.  This time, Cox walked with one out.  He stole second.  Tanner singled for the third time on the day.  Cox to third.  Staab singled to center.  Cox scored.  Tanner moved to second.  A strikeout and fly out to center ended the inning   And the scrimmage. 

Gray wins 2-1 in 6 1/2 innings. 

October 8, 2017 - Gray 4, Blue 2 (8-1/2 innings)

Gray tallied two runs in the top of the ninth to break a 2-2 tie and salvage the 4-2 win as time expired before Blue could bat in the bottom of the ninth.  Not something normally seen in a baseball game! 

Blue scored 2 runs in the third inning with 2 out.  In the bottom of the third, Char Tatum beat out an infield single to register his fourth straight hit of the fall.  A come-backer to the pitcher forced Tatum at second.  Brad Gneiting reached first.   

With two out, Kelby Weyler singled to center.  Gneiting advanced.  Ryan Chandler singled to center. Gneiting scored.  Weyler to second.  Dom DiCaprio doubled to left-center.  Weyler scored.  Chandler to third.  Inning terminated on pitch count. 

The score remained Blue 2, Gray 0 until the top of the seventh.  After a pop-out, Braden Comeaux singled to center.  Comeaux advanced to second on a wild pitch  He then stole second.  Trei Cruz singled to left on the eighth pitch of the at-bat. 

Comeaux scored.  Ford Proctor singled to center.  Cruz to third.  Luis Aviles rapped the fourth straight single to score CruzProctor to second.  An infield grounder forced Aviles at second.  Pitch count ended the frame.
  
After 7 innings, it was 2-2.  It remained that way until the ninth inning. 

Kendal Jefferies opened the ninth with a single to left.  Comeaux reached on a single to short.  Cruz worked the pitch count again and walked to fill the bases.  All runners advanced a bases on a wild pitch.  Jefferies scored.  Comeaux scored on the Proctor sac-fly to left.  Cruz out in an attempt to advance to third.  Inning ended on pitch count.  Game called on time limit.

October 7, 2017 - Gray 3, Blue 2 (8 innings)

Gray rallied to win 3-2 this afternoon.  Solo home runs by Chace Sarchet and Justin Collins in the second inning staked Blue to an early 2-0 lead.  Gray scored single runs in the fifth, sixth (a solo HR by Brandt Frazier) and seventh to capture the win.

Kel Bordwine pitched the next 3 innings for Blue.  Bordwine pitched a scoreless fourth. Cox singled with 2 outs. 

Gray tallied single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.  Brewer doubled down the left field line to lead-off.  With two outs, Gray scored on an infield error.   

In the sixth, Frazier homered to left with two outs.  Cox singled for his second hit of the day.  Bordwine walked 2 and struck out 2.  One earned run. 

Nick Silber pitched 3 shutout innings for Gray.  Sarchet and Collins each singled in the fourth.  Tatum singled to start the fifth.  An infield grounder forced Tatum.  gray turned a nice 6-4-3 double play to end the frame.   

Silber retired the side in order in the sixth. 

All square 2-2 after 6 innings.

Garret Gayle pitched the last two innings for Blue.  With one out, Acker walked.  Comeaux singled Acker to second with two outs.  Proctor singled to right.  Acker scored.  Inning over on pitch count. 

In the eighth, Frazier singled with 2 out.  Gayle pitched 1.2 innings allowing 1 run on 5 hits, 1 walk with 4 Ks. 

Mason Hellums pitched 2 shutout innings.  In the seventh, Osburn walked and Tanner reached on an infield hit.  A sac-bunt attempt was turned into a double play.  Pitcher to third to first with the second baseman covering first.   A fly to center ended the frame. 

Once again, the first two batters reached base in the eighth off HellumsTatum had his third straight single.  Gneiting doubled over the head of the right-fielder.  Tatum to third.  Gray brought the infield in.  A grounder to short held the runner at third  Out at first.  The next batter grounded out to first.  Once again, the runner was held at third.  DiCaprio walked to load the bases.  A pop fly to center ended the scrimmage. Mason allowed no runs on 3 hits and 2 walks.  No Ks.   

The final was Gray 3 Blue 2. 

Scrimmage again tomorrow afternoon. 

October 4, 2017 - Blue 3, Gray 1 (6-1/2 innings)

On a beautiful late summer evening, the Blue squad once again used a three run inning to topple the Gray squad 3-1 in 6 1/2 innings. 

The pitchers for Blue were Matt Canterino, Joshua Larzabal, Blair Lewis and Ben Schragger.  All pitchers went 2 innings except Schragger who pitched one inning. 

The three Gray pitchers were Evan Kravetz, Jackson Parthasarathy and Dane Acker.  Each pitched in 2 innings. 

The Gray starting line-up consisted of the following: 

Brad Gneiting RF; Braden Comeaux 3b; Trei Cruz SS; Luis Aviles 1b; Ryan Chandler CF; Kelby Weyler LF; Brandt Frazier C; Parker Osburn 2b; ; Nick Tanner  DH; Dane Acker DH. 

For Blue, the starting line-up was as follows:

The Blue pitchers held the Gray Team to one unearned run in seven innings. 

Canterino started his outing by walking the lead-off hitter GneitingGneiting stole second.  Comeaux reached on an infield single to short.  Gneiting was picked off second.  Comeaux was caught stealing.  Cruz walked.  Canterino then hit Aviles with a pitch.  Canterino then struck out the final batter in the first and struck out the side in the second.  Two innings with no runs, one hit, two walks, one HBP, and four Ks. 

Evan Kravetz worked two perfect innings for Gray.  He struck out three with two fly outs and a ground out.

Larzabal worked two shutout innings for Blue.  Tanner started the third with a single to left.  Acker walked.  Gneiting advanced the runners with a sac-bunt.  two infield ground outs ended the frame.   

The fourth inning was very similar. Aviles started the inning with a single to left.  Chandler followed with a singled to center.  Weyler sacrificed the runners up a base.  A pop foul to third and a ground out third to first ended Larzabal's day. 

He pitched two innings and allowed two hits and one walk.

Parthasarathy pitched innings three and four for Gray.  Duluc greeted him with a single to left-center.  Brewer ripped a double down the third base line.  Duluc scored from first.  Staab singled to left.  Brewer advanced to third.  Staab stole second.   Tatum walked to load the bases.  Proctor singled to center.  Brewer and Staab scored.  Tatum to third. The inning was called after an infield fielder's choice.

 Parthasarathy pitched a solid fourth.  The first out was a line-drive to first.  A strikeout followed. The next batter struck-out but reached first on a third strike wild pitch.  The third out followed on a pop foul out.

On the day, Parthasarathy allowed three earned runs on four hits, a walk, a wild pitch and two Ks. 

After four, it was 3-0 Blue. 

Blair Lewis pitched the next two innings for Blue.  Gneiting reached first on an infield error.  Tanner got his second single to left on the day.  Gneiting to third and Tanner to second on the throw to third.  A strikeout followed.  Comeaux drove him the runner on third with a single to center.  Comeaux was out attempting to steal second.  A fly ended the fifth.  With two out in the sixth, Weyler singled to right-center.  he was caught trying to steal to end Lewis's outing.

He went two innings, three hits, one run, no earned runs, and two strikeouts.  

Dane Acker came on to pitch the last two innings for Gray.  After Acker struck out the first four batters he faced, Proctor singled to left with one out in the sixth.  A hard hit grounder was fielded for an out at first with the double play being completed with a tag at second. 

Acker had four Ks and allowed one hit in his two innings. 

After six innings, Blue was up 3-1.

Ben Schragger pitched the seventh for Blue.  Gray threatened with a walk to Osburn, a pop-out to the pitcher, a walk to Acker,and a strikeout..  When Comeaux was HBP it loaded the bases.The rally ended on an infield force out. 

Schragger allowed no runs, no hits, two walks, and a hit batter. 

Final score Blue 3 Gray 1.

October 2, 2017 - Blue 3, Gray 2 (6 innings)

It may not feel like fall yet but the first Fall Ball Scrimmage is in the books as Blue scores 3 runs in the bottom of the fourth to come from 2 runs down to win today 3-2. 

The Gray starting line-up consisted of the following:

Moss pitched two hit-less innings.  He struck out two and walked two.  Gray scored one run in the second as Sarchet walked to start the inning.  A wild pitch sent  him to second.  Osburn bunted him to third.  Sarchet scored on Acker's sac-fly to left. 

Jefferries pitched two shutout innings.  He walked a man in the second and ended his outing with his lone strikeout. 

Gayle pitched the third and fourth innings for Blue.  Duluc singled with one out in the third.  Blue turned a nice double play to end the frame. 

Gray added a run in the fourth as Weyler walked to start the rally.  Chandler pushed Weyler to third on a beautiful the hit-and-run.  Chandler stole second.  DiCaprio walked to fill the bases.  Sarchet grounded to first to score Weyler

A line drive to second was turned into a double play when the runner was caught off second base. 

Silber pitched the third and fourth for Gray.  Silber retired the side in order in the third and then the lead-off man in the fourth. 

Proctor doubled to right.  Cruz walked.  Aviles doubled home Proctor.  Cruz to third.  Frazier then ripped the third double of the inning to center.  Cruz and Aviles scored.  A strikeout ended Silber's outing. 

After 4 innings, Blue 3 Gray 2. 

Hellums pitched the fifth for Blue.  He gave up a one out double to Tanner.  He struck out one.   

Schragger picthed the sixth for Blue.  After an infield ground-out to second, Weyler drew his third walk of the day.  Schragger picked him off first.  Chandler was HBP.  Schragger picked him off too. 

Bordwine pitched the last two innings for Gray.  He pitched shutout ball.  He had two strikeouts and gave up a one out single in the sixth to Comeaux

Final:  Blue wins 3-2 in 6 innings.
