Grammy Awards:
Yesterday, Goliard Travel Scholar Caroline Shaw ’04 won the 2025 Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance for her Rectangles and Circumstance. The Grammy is her fifth. She previously won awards in 2024, 2022, 2020 and 2014.
New Orleans Laffont Competition (Thanks, Michelle Smith '79!):
Yesterday, twelve singers competed in the Gulf Coast Region Laffont Competition in New Orleans. Heading to the Metropolitan Opera stage in New York City for the Semifinals on March 9 will be first place winner Luke Sutliff, baritone, from the Houston District. He received his Bachelor of Music from The Juilliard School and his Master of Music from the Shepherd School in 2021.
Fr Michael Augustine Dominc Garcia OP (1952-2025):
On January 29, Fr Michael Augustine Dominic Garcia unexpectedly passed away. Born in Illinois, he earned a BA degree in Architecture from Rice in 1974. Two years later, he entered the Dominic Order and he earned a Master of Theology in 1981 and a Master of Divinity in 1982. He “spent the entirety of his priestly ministry in the Chicago area” and he “was especially known for his empathetic pastoral work and kindness”. Click here for the obituary.
