Camille Dockery Simpson (1916-2023):
On March 4, Camille Dockery Simpson passed away. A native Texan, she graduated from Rice in the accelerated wartime class of 1946 with a major in chemistry. In 1948, she married Ray Simpson who earned a BA in 1944 and a master’s degree, both in chemical engineering, from Rice. Together, they raised six children. Also, she was active in her church and she taught in Cy Fair ISD, putting to use a master’s degree in education from the University of New Orleans.
Interestingly, her granddaughter Catherine Fitzsimmons ’11 played soccer for the Owls and was the tenth person from the family to attend Rice. She is predeceased by, among others, Ray. Click here for the Chronicle obituary.
