On May 4, 2004, Chris “Gritman” Kolkhorst, who was a member of the 2003 College World Series team, was awarded his Rice diploma at a special ceremony on the field at Reckling Park by former Rice president Malcolm Gillis. He earned “a BA in economics and managerial studies and amassed a 3.36 grade point average and a .348 batting average during his three years on South Main”. Photo here. (Thanks, Mike Ross!)
