William Joplin (1936-2022):
On August 1, Bill Joplin passed away. A native Houstonian, he attended his first Rice football game in 1946 when the Owls upset Bobby Layne and the Longhorns, 18-13. After graduating from St Thomas High School in 1954, he started at Rice and then earned an engineering degree from UT. After military service, he and his older brother Jack formed a business fabricating and leasing portable natural gas compressors which they sold in 1996. Also, he was an avid low handicap golfer.
