Mike Gibson (1943-2021):
On May 24, Mike Gibson passed away. A native Texan, he earned three degrees in Chemical Engineering including a BS (1965) and a Master (1966) from Cornell and a PhD from Rice in 1973. As a First Lieutenant in the Army assigned to NASA, he was a pivotal member of the Apollo XIII Mission Operations Team. The entire team received a Presidential Medal of Freedom for their efforts in returning the astronauts to Earth. In 1973, he joined Exxon where he helped to develop new patented processes for the gasification of shale. In 1981, he cofounded Carbotek. Also, he was active in the community.
