On July 4, former US Representative Bill Archer passed away. A native Houstonian, he attended Rice (class of 1949) and graduated from UT Austin with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a LLB in 1951. “Serving for 30 years, he eventually wrote virtually all tax laws considered by the House and was a major influence on budget bills as Ways and Means chairman.” He was an enthusiastic supporter of the Republican “Contract With America”.
