Ope Amosu, MBA '14:
This month, Esquire Magazine named ChopNBlok among the thirty-three best new restaurants in America this year. Ope Amosu’s restaurant started as a pop-up before becoming a vendor at Post Houston food hall in 2021 and now has a standalone brick-and-mortar location at 507 Westheimer in Montrose since October last year. Paul Rathouz (1963-2025):
On December 10, Paul Rathouz passed away from complications arising from multiple myeloma. Born in Michigan, he earned a BA in Mathematics from Rice in 1986. After three years in the Peace Corps, he earned a master’s from UNC in 1993 and a PhD in Biostatistics from Johns Hopkins in 1997. He enjoyed a career as a professor at the University of Chicago, the University of Wisconsin-Madison and UT Austin. “He valued collaborative work and research with colleagues worldwide, and prioritized advising and mentoring graduate students.” Also, his “sense of humor was legendary”.
