Ernesto Maldonado (1955-2024):
On August 13, Ernesto Maldonado passed away. A native Texan, he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art & Art History from UH in 1979 and a Master of Architecture from Rice in 1983. In 1996, he cofounded GSMA Architects, ”an award-winning architecture firm widely recognized for both its distinguished design achievements and worthy contributions to the greater community”. For over thirty years, he and GSMA have worked with New Hope Housing to develop affordable and appealing housing in Houston. Also, he was involved with Rothko Chapel. He is survived by, among others, his wife of forty-five years, Mary Louise Welch. Click here for the Chronicle obituary.
