Vance Underhill (1939-2024):
On May 12, Vance Underhill passed away. The son of a major league pitcher, he earned a bachelors degree from Rice in 1961 and a master’s degree and a PhD in 1972 from UT Austin. He taught mathematics at East Texas State (now called Texas A&M – Commerce) for thirty-five years (including some years with JP Heath’s father), retiring in 2004. Also, he loved the outdoors, he was an excellent amateur photographer and he was very active in his church.
In 2001, his first wife Charlotte passed away. In 2008, he married Ann Waldby Key Underhill ‘64 who survives him. Click here for the obituary.
