Richard Linklater:
On Sunday, Apollo 10 ½, the new film by Richard Linklater, the uncle of former Rice pitcher Jackson Parthasarathy ’19, debuted at SXSW in Austin. The film will be available to watch on Netflix beginning April 1. Frida Escobedo (Thanks, Charles Maynard!):
Architect Frida Escobedo has been selected to design the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art’s new $500 million Modern and contemporary art wing. During Spring 2019, she was a visiting professor at Rice. Read more.
James Youngblood (1930-2022):
On March 6, James Youngblood passed away. A native Texan, he earned a BA/BS in Mechanical Engineering from Rice in 1953. After military service, he earned a MS in 1959 and PhD in 1963 in Mechanical Engineering from Rice. In 1954, he married Katie Beth Hunter ’58. He enjoyed a career with DuPont, NASA, Gemini Detectors and Detcon. Also, he was active in the community and in his church. He is predeceased, by among others, Katie (she passed away last month).
