    Fall Ball began on Monday, September 29 and concluded on November 12.  There were exhibition games at Reckling Park vs. Tulane on October 11 and Lamar on October 18.  Also, the Longball Classic took place on November 11.

    Ken Hatfield will receive the 2015 Stagg Award at the AFCA Awards Luncheon on January 13 in Louisville.  The award honors those “whose services have been outstanding in the advancement of the best interests of football”.  Read more

    Elizabeth Long:
    Rice sociologist honored with festschrift (Rice News)

    William D Van Vorst (1919 - 2014):
    On April 17, Dr William D Van Vorst passed away.  A native Georgian, he received a BS from Rice in 1941 and a MS from MIT in 1943, both in Chemical Engineering.  In 1946, he joined the Faculty of Engineering at UCLA where he earned his PhD in 1953 and he enjoyed teaching for almost 50 years.  Also, he loved to play tennis and to travel and learn about other cultures.  Click here for the Los Angeles Times obituary.

    Trivia Answer:
    Rice’s first homecoming was held on Thanksgiving, 1919.  That afternoon, Rice football turned the Arkansas Razorbacks into turkeys, 40-7.  Read more.  (Thanks, Melissa Kean!)
