Anh Reiss '89 (Reminder):
Rice baseball fan Anh Reiss (Sid Rich ’89) has been nominated to be People Magazine’s 2010 Hero of the Year for her efforts to encourage registration on the National Marrow Donor Program’s Be the Match Registry.

People are encouragd to vote for their favorite Hero on the People Magazine website here.  the winner receives $10,000 to the charity of their choice.  Voting continues through October 10.  People can vote as often as they want.

Lew Harpold (1932 - 2010):
Lew Harpold ‘56 passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, a day before what would have been his 78th birthday.  He was a three-year football letterman at Rice from 1953-5.  He served as general counsel of Randall’s Food Markets and then was a valued member of Looper Reed & McGraw for 20 years. The funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 am at Second Baptist Church.

Jerry Simms '58:
Jerry Simms
, who was a three-year baseball letterman from 1956-8, carves ducks for a hobby.  Recently, Secretary Baker commissioned him to carve one for the Baker Institute.  Last week, Jerry presented a duck to Secretary Baker in a ceremony at the Baker Institute.  Each duck takes 100 hours to create.

Mabel Jane Rogue Herce:
Terra, Steven and big brothers Jimmy, Teddy and Jack are pleased to announce the arrival of Mabel Jane Rogue (“Maisy”) on Monday night, weighing 8 lbs and measuring 20.5 inches.  She is in the neonatal intensive care unit where she is receiving respiratory assistance.  Maisy’s prognosis is good.  Please keep the Herce family in your thoughts and prayers.

Bobby Williams Sr.:
Bobby Williams Sr. passed away on Friday due to a heart attack.  He played both football (he was a member of the 1958 Cotton Bowl team) and baseball at Rice.  Later, he served as an Owls assistant football coach in the 1980s. His son, Bobby who also played football at Rice, is Sam Houston State AD.  Funeral arrangements are pending.
