Dennis Sullivan (1940-2017):
On August 10, Dennis Sullivan passed away.  A native Texan, he earned a BA in Biology from Rice in 192 and a DDS from UT Dental School in 1966.  After military service, he practiced dentistry in Houston until retiring in 2006.  He is survived by, among others, his wife Susie (they were married in 1963).  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Earlier this month, Gene Stacy passed away.  After military service in WWII, he earned a BS in Chemical Engineering from Rice in 1950 and worked many years at the Monsanto Chemical Plant in Texas City.  Click here for the obituary..

Walther Hahn (1923-2017):
On August 5, Walther Hahn passed away.  He was born in Berlin, served in the German Armed Forces during WWII and emigrated to the United States in 1953.  He earned a Masters from Rice in 1954 and a PhD in German Literature from UT in 1956.  He taught at Purdue and the University of Oregon.  He is survived by, among others, his wife of 66 years, Caecilia.  Click here for the Athens Banner-Herald obituary.

Margaret Gregg (1931-2017):
On July 30, Margaret Gregg passed away.  A native Texan, she attended Rice (class of 1953) where she met her husband of 67 years Charles Robert Gregg (class of 1951).  She was devoted to her family and her friends and she had a gift for hospitality.  Also, she was active in her church and in the community. Female marine to compete in national tactical warfare competition (Quantico Sentry)

Jack Washburn (1932-2017):
On July 9, Jack Washburn passed away.  A native Texan, he earned a BA (’54) and a  BS (’55) in Mechanical Engineering from Rice.  After military service, he enjoyed a number of jobs and avocations including salesman, private pilot, commodities broker and rally car driver.  Also, he loved to read.  Click here for The Oklahoman obituary.

Dick Bowen (1935-2017):
On July 4, Dick Bowen passed away.  A native Texan, he earned a BA in History from Rice in 1957.  After military service, he worked for PPG Industries in Texas and Ohio.  Also, he was active in his church and in the community.  After retirement in 1993, he enjoyed life at his ranch property in the Hill Country.  Click here for the San Angelo Standard-Times obituary.

On June 7, Thomas Hopkins III passed away.  Born in Washington DC, he earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Rice in 1949.  After military service, he enjoyed a career with JT Thorpe for 52 years as an engineer.  Click here for the Houston Chronicle obituary.
