William Kieschnick (1923 - 2013):
On August 21, William Kieschnick, a Rice Trustee Advisor, passed away.  A native Texan, he graduated from Rice in 1947 with a degree in chemical engineering.   He spent his entire career with ARCO, retiring in 1985 as president and CEO.  Also, he served as president of the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art and, after retirement, he was actively involved in the Napa Valley Opera House.

 In 1981, he received the Rice Distinguished Alumni Award.  Click here for the Napa Valley Register obituary.

Leonard Lane '74:
On Thursday, Leonard Lane ‘74 had surgery for diverticulitis in Houston.  He is slowly recovering.
 

Captain Graduate Lounge (correction):
As reported yesterday, the GSA lounge in the Rice Memorial Center has been renamed the Captain Graduate Lounge in honor of Jen and Purvez Captain.  Jen also earned a PhD in Computational and Applied Mathematics in 1999 from Rice.

Captain Graduate Lounge:
The GSA lounge in the Rice Memorial Center has been renamed the Captain Graduate Lounge in honor of Jen and Purvez Captain.  Jen earned a Master of Arts in Computational and Applied Mathematics in 1998 from Rice and Purvez earned a Master of Arts (1993) and a PhD (1994) in  Economics from Rice.  They are active supporters of the GSA and the Athletic Department, among other interests.

David Austin Stephens (1955 - 2013):
On August 15, David Austin Stephens passed away.   He graduated from Rice in 1978 with a BA in Mathematical Sciences and was the owner of Elliott and Waldron Abstract Company of Pecos.  Click here for the Odessa American obituary.

John Peet (1924 - 2013):
On August 12, John Peet passed away.  A native Houstonian, he earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from Rice in 1948 and then enjoyed a 40-year career with Humble Oil, later Exxon.  He loved the outdoors, he was an avid football fan and he was active in his church.  Click here for the Dallas Morning News obituary.
