The Victoria Advocate’s all-time Crossroads baseball team includes three-year Rice baseball letterman Mike Macha (1973-74-75) and Coach Wayne Graham.

Little League World Series Champion Owls (Thanks, Steven Herce!):
Further to my report yesterday, Rice baseball letterman Matt Cunningham (2001) played on the 1994 Northridge City CA team which lost to Venezuela in the Little League World Series championship game.

Little League World Series Champion Owls (Thanks, John Wolda!):
Four Rice baseball lettermen were also Little League World Series Champions.  Fred Burns (1957-58-59), Alex Mitchell (1957-58-59) and Lee Raesener (1960-62-63) were members of the 1950 winning Houston team while Bryan Boyne (1972-74-75) was a member of the winning 1966 Westbury team.  And, Fred Penny and Larry Fogarty from the 1950 team played freshman baseball at Rice.

Owls in Summer Ball:
This week, the Texas Collegiate League named Woodlands Strykers outfielder Michael Aquino as 2012 TCL Player of the Year.  He led the league in batting average (.327), slugging percentage (.588), home runs (10) and triples (3).  Click here for the release.

Senior League World Series, Bangor:
Yesterday, the West U Little League Seniors lost to US West, 9-1, in their fourth pool game of the Senior League World Series in Bangor ME.  With a 2-2 record, the WULL Seniors did not advance out of pool play and are eliminated from the tournament.

The WULL Seniors are coached by Clint Sauls, Adam Zornes and Cape Bell.  The catcher is Brandt Frazier, son of Kyle Frazier ’83 and grandson of Bill Frazier ’54.

Owls in Summer Ball:
The summer is over for the Owls in the Cape Cod Baseball League.  Austin Kubitza (Orleans) and John Simms (Falmouth) advanced to the playoffs.  Chase McDowell and Evan Rutter (both Brewster) saved their best for last, Chase pitching 5 innings for a win in his final appearance and Evan pitching a perfect 6.1 innings (including 8 K) in his final week.

Yesterday, the West U Little League Seniors lost to US Southeast, 2-0, in their third pool game of the Senior League World Series in Bangor ME.  After a day off today, the team (“US Southwest”) plays US West at 8 pm (ET) tomorrow.

The WULL Seniors are coached by Clint Sauls, Adam Zornes and Cape Bell.  The catcher is Brandt Frazier, son of Kyle Frazier ’83 and grandson of Bill Frazier ’54.
