RBI Club Cookout, October 16:
This year, the RBI Club Cookout will be held on Sunday, October 16, in conjunc-tion with the scrimmage vs. Texas State.  All RBI Club members are encouraged to bring their friends and prospective members for RBI.  More details to follow.

Disch Receives Zornes Award (Thanks, Chris Reichert!):
Scott Disch
will receive the first ever Scotty Zornes Young Coaches Award.  The award, presented by the Positive Coaching Alliance, goes to an outstanding coach with less than 5 years experience.

Scott, whor received a Masters in Teaching from Rice in 2008, is a 7th grade English teacher at Grady Middle School where he coaches baseball and basketball.  He is the son of Dr. Jimmy Disch.

The award is named after Scott Zornes, Adam's brother, who helped coach the West U. Seniors to the Little League World Series Title in 2009.  Last year, he passed away at the age of 26 in a car accident in Alabama.

California Collegiate League:
Yesterday, Allan Simpson ranked Austin Kubitza no. 1 among the Perfect Game California League Top 35 prospects.  Also, he ranked Michael Ratterree no. 7 and Brad Kottman no. 31.

2012 Baseball Schedules:
According to the Tennessee 2012 baseball schedule, the Houston College Classic at Minute Maid Park will be played Friday, March 2 through Sunday, March 4.  As reported, the participating teams are Tennessee, Rice, UH, UT, Texas Tech and Arkansas.

2012 Baseball Schedules:
According to the UH baseball schedule, the Cougars host the Owls on Wednes-day, February 29 and visit Reckling Park for a three-game weekend conference series in early May.

According to the Texas A&M 2012 baseball schedule, the Aggies host the Owls on Tuesday, April 17.

Cape Cod Baseball League:
On Wednesday, John Simms was named to the Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Team.

Team USA:
Yesterday, Jim Callis ranked Stanford RHP Mark Appel, the nephew of Natalye Appel '80/'82, no. 1 among Baseball America's Team USA Top 20 Prospects (subscription content).

Rice Baseball:
Yesterday, MK tweeted that Sr. RHP Anthony Fazio and OF Will Maxwell have retired.  Anthony will serve as a student coach in 2012 and is set to graduate next spring and Will will remain a student at Rice.  Also, LHP Kyle Mueller (Blinn) and C Tyler Pearson (Grayson) have transferred.  Therefore, the Owls roster currently stands at 38 with a NCAA-mandated limit of 35 set for the 2012 season.  The travel-roster limit is 25.

Santa Barbara Foresters:
On Monday, Allan Simpson ranked the Santa Barbara Foresters, who featured Brad Kottman, Austin Kubitza, Tyler Pearson and Michael Ratterree, no. 2 among the Perfect Game Final Collegiate Summer Top 50.  Of Austin, he wrote "was 93-95 in relief in the first half for Foresters, before dominating as a starter down stretch".

Team USA:
Yesterday, Kendall Rogers ranked Stanford RHP Mark Appel, the nephew of Natalye Appel '80/'82, no. 2 on the Perfect Game Team USA top 20 prospect list.

Fall Ball:
Fall Ball starts on Monday, September 26.  There will be an exhibition game at UH on Sunday, October 9 and another against Texas State at Reckling Park on Sunday, October 16 (times TBD).

Also, please save the date for the Longball Classic supporting Rice Baseball on Wednesday, November 2 at Longwood Golf Club.  Registration will begin soon.
