Former Owl pitcher Tim Byrdak has recorded 4 major league saves, one each for Kansas City (1999), Baltimore (2005), Detroit (2007) and New York (2011).  Interestingly, he recorded no saves but 5 wins for Houston in 3 seasons.

Rice has commissioned American-born sculptor Bruce Wolfe to create the status of Edgar Odell Lovett, to be unveiled as part of its Centennial Celebration next year.

The sculptor of the William Marsh Rice statue was British-born John Angel.  Per Melissa Kean, he "spent most of his career as an ecclesiastical sculptor and had done the baptistry of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York for Rice's architect Ralph Adams Cram".
