Rice's 1st first-round draft pick was Ronald Henson (Indians, June-secondary phase, 1967).

Way to go, Jim Woodruff, Gerry Donohue, David Ownby, Don Greive, Ann Bixby, John Wolda, Jim Bollom, Michael Rash, Rod Boane, Bob Reinhold, Frankie Mandola and Jim Woodward!

Jim Woodruff adds:  "I played with Ronnie and tried to catch him my senior year ('67) as our regular catcher, Hugo Hollas, was in spring football along with our 3rd baseman, Doug Nicholson;  our other catcher, Ronnie White, was playing 3rd in his place.  We actually won our first 11 games in a row and were ranked 7th  in the country.  That was also the same season that Frankie Mandola broke his leg in a collision at home plate against Texas in Austin.  Ronnie had great stuff and threw hard but didn't know where the ball was going."

Frankie Mandola adds: "Ronnie was my roommate at Baker College!  He got $5,000 and a new Buick Riviera!  My, how times have changed!:
