Don Douglass (1931 - 2017):
On March 27, Don Douglass passed away.  He attended Rice (class of 1953) and earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from UT in 1954 and a MBA from Stanford in 1959.  In addition to serving in the Navy between 1954-58, he founded the Alamo Group in Seguin in 1969 and served as chairman from 1969 to 2011.  In 1982, the Douglass Foundation was established.  Also, he was active in his church.  Click here for the San Antonio Express-News obituary.

Rodolfo Jacuzzi (1926 - 2017):
On March 19, Rodolfo Jacuzzi passed away.  A  native of California, he attended Rice (class of 1947) during the war as a member of the Navy.  After the war, he completed his studies at CAL Berkeley.  His father was one of the founders of Jacuzzi Brothers, a family business that pioneered in aviation, developed pumps and invented the famous hydro-massage bath. He co-founded International Mfg Co.  Click here for the East Bay Times obituary.

Donald Kehn (1923 - 2017):
On March 18, Donald Kehn passed away.  A native of Iowa, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Iowa in 1944, served in the war and earned a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Rice in 1949.  He enjoyed a career with Humble Oil nka as Exxon for 30 years.  He established scholarships at both schools.  Also, he loved traveling, reading and classical music.  He is predeceased by, among others, his wife of 56 years, Dortha.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

On March 10, Marjorie Sims, the wife of the late James R Sims passed away.  He taught civil engineering at Rice from 1942 until he retired in 1987.  She was a Rice Owl fan and was active in various organizations off and on campus.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

On March 7, Jack Bailey passed away.  A native of Maryland, he attended Rice (class of 1955) and earned a Pharmacy degree from UH.  Later, he graduated from South Texas College of Law and practiced law for over 40 years in Houston.  He is survived by, among others, his wife Cheryl.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

On March 8, Hundley Rankin passed away.  A native Texan, he earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Rice in 1948.  After working in Abilene and Kerrville, he enjoyed a 32-year career with Convair which became General Dynamics.  Also, he enjoyed classical music and he was active in the community and in his church.  He is survived by, among others, wife of 67 years, Betty Jo.  Click here for the Abilene Reporter-News obituary.

On March 7, Doug Brown passed away.  He earned a BA in Biochemistry from Rice in 1970.  He enjoyed an “eclectic” professional career, ending with CGRS Environmental Consulting in Fort Collins CO.  Also, he was active in his church.  He is survived by, among others, wife Kay (they were married in 1996).  Click here for the Loveland Reporter-Herald obituary.

On February 26, Porter Dobbins passed away.  A native of Alabama, he graduated from Rice in 1956 with a degree in Civil Engineering.  He enjoyed a career working in the offshore oil and petrochemical industry.  Also, he was an avid outdoorsman.  He is survived by, among others, wife of 63 years, Betty.  Click here for the Montgomery Advertiser obituary.
