Beth Ray:
On March 21, Beth Ray passed away after battling lung cancer.  She graduated from Rice in 1968.  She was a lifetime educator and previously a business law professor. She is survived by, among others, her husband of 44 years, Ed, who is president of Oregon State University.  Read more.

Eve Everett Fish (1934 - 2014):
On May 21, Eve Everett Fish passed away.  A native Texan, she attended Stanford for 2 years and completed her degree at Rice in 1956.  She taught elementary school in San Francisco and then at Kincaid in Houston.  Also, she was active in the community and at her church.  She is survived by, among others, her husband of 52 years, Jim, whom she met on a blind date to the 1960 Bluebonnet Bowl at Rice Stadium.  Click here for the Austin American-Statesman obituary

Rice dedicates new Anderson-Clarke Center (Rice News)

Ben Singleton Campbell:
On May 19, Ben Singleton Campbell passed away.  A native Texan and the grandson of former Houston mayor Ben Campbell, he graduated from Rice in 1936 where “he took more pride in having fun than he did in maintaining superior grades”.  After serving in WWII and earning a Bronze Star medal, he enjoyed a successful career in accounting with Tenneco, eventually becoming Treasurer.  Also, he was active in his church.  He is survived by, among others, his wife of 74 years, Dede.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Reba Marie McFee Laughter:
On May 18, Reba Marie McFee Laughter passed away at the age of 88.  A fourth generation Houstonian, she worked for many years at Rice and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.  She is survived by, among others, her husband of 67 years, Col Ramon M Laughter USAF Retired.  Click here for the Courier obituary.

Henry Murdoch (1921 - 2014):
On April 17, Henry Murdoch passed away.  A native Oklahoman, he was a B-17 bomber pilot who was shot down over Germany and held as a prisoner of war until WWII ended.  After receiving his Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rice in 1954, he was employed for many years by Reed Roller Bit Company where he held several patents.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.
