On May 25, Margaret “Margie” Mulvey passed away.  A native Houstonian, she attended Rice (class of 1941).  She  was “an avid reader and was keenly interested in world, national and local affairs”.   Also, she was actively involved in religious and community organizations.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Cornelia Presnell:
On May 8, Cornelia “Connie” Presnell passed away.  A native Illinoisan, she graduated from Rice in 1950.  She “devoted much of her life to the Pin Oaks Charity Horse Show as an exhibitor, show secretary, and riding instructor”.   She also enjoyed raising show dogs and competing in agility trials.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Paul Merrifield (1922 - 2013):
On May 17, Pau Merrifield passed away.  After WWII military service, he completed a BA from Colby in 1947 and earned a masters and a PhD in chemistry from Rice in 1949 and 1951, respectively.  He worked as a chemist at Armstrong Corporation from 1952 until 1981.  He retired to Maine and enjoyed playing tennis, boating and music.  Click here for the Portland Press Herald obituary.

Richard Leigh (1918 - 2013):
On May 18, Richard Leigh passed away at the age of 95.  A native Houstonian, he earned a BA from Rice in 1939 and a MD from UTMB Galveston in 1942.  After WWII military service, he was engaged in the private practice of Ophthalmology in Houston and Bellville from 1951 to 1995.  He is survived by, among others, his wife of 66 years, Thelma.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

William Leach Jr:
On May 13, William Leach Jr passed away at the age of 56.  He earned a BA in Economics and a Masters of Accounting from Rice in 1978 and a law degree from UT in 1981.  He was a licensed CPA and attorney and was the president and owner of Long Horn Meat Co.  He was “a lover of knowledge, an avid story teller, and well-traveled”.  Click here for the Austin American-Statesman obituary.

Gregory Howard Kahn (1968 - 2013):
On May 9, Gregory Howard Kahn passed away at the age of 45. A native Illinoisan,  he graduated from Rice in 1990 where he was the co-editor-in-chief of The Rice Thresher and earned a law degree from UT in 1995.  From 2000 to the present, he held several senior legal positions at Verizon and MCI in the Washington DC area and Singapore.  Besides family, he was also passionate about photography, writing and travel.  Click here for the Washington Post obituary.

On May 5, Donald Erby Wagner passed away.  He earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Rice in 1959.  He worked as an aerospace engineer on high profile projects for over 50 years.  He is survived by, among others, his wife of 53 years, Sandra.  Click here for the Lufkin News obituary

On April 19, Randall Furlong passed away.  He earned a BS in Physics and a BA in Art History from Rice in 1981, a PhD in Physics from Rockefeller University in 1987 and a law degree from Georgetown in 1995.  He practice intellectual property law in Houston.  Also, he was an active member of his church community.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.
