Graham Louis de Wit (1989 - 2012):
On May 22, Graham Louis de Wit passed away at the age of 23.  He was a student in Computer and Electrical Engineering at Rice (class of 2011).  He was known for his dry wit, his shy charm, his brilliant mind, as well as his remarkable musical talents.  Click here for the Commercial Appeal (TN) obituary.

Charles Bartholomew (1920 - 2012):
On May 18, Charles Bartholomew passed away at the age of 92.  A native Houstonian, he earned a BS degree in Civil Engineering from Rice in 1943.  After military service in WW II and employment in Texas, he worked as an engineer for the NY State Department of Transportation for over 30 years, retiring in 1979.  He could fix almost anything, he enjoyed traveling all over, and he was a lover of gardening and the outdoors.  Click here for the Albany Times Union obituary.

Preston Frazier (1925 - 2012):
On May 20, Preston John Frazier passed away.  A native Houstonian, he received a BS in Chemical Engineering from Rice in 1945.  After military service, he and his college friend C Addison McElroy ‘47 founded Faroy, Inc., a candlemaking business which grew into an enterprise shipping candles and other gift items all over the world.  He was well known in Houston art circles and was the founder of the Nutcracker Market.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

William Fairchild (1927 - 2012):
On May 22, William Fairchild passed away.  A native Houstonian, he graduated from Rice with a MS in chemical engineering in 1949.  He enjoyed a 38 year career with Shell Oil, working in Houston, Oakland and Midland.  Also, he was active in community organizations.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Georgia Bost:
On May 24, Georgia Bost passed away.  She received a BA (’72) and a MA (‘75) from Rice, both in Biology.  She helped found Urban Harvest, Houston’s community gardening program.  Also, she promoted the historical uses of hibiscus and other natural herbs, spaces and foods as a holder of 6 patents.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Jack Fariss (1928 - 2012):
On May 14, Jack Fariss passed away.  A native Texan, he graduated from Rice (’51), Stanford and the University of Texas.  He worked for Marathon Oil in Houston and in London.  He valued education, physical exercise and hard work. Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Raymond Morris Bowen Jr (1959 - 2012):
On Saturday, Ray Bowen Jr passed away at the age of 52.  A native Texan, he earned a BS degree from UT (’82) and an MBA from Rice (’84).  The son of Raymond M Bowen Sr, president emeritus of Texas A&M, he was former treasurer and CFO of Enron.  Since September 2010, he had worked as a financial adviser for Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co.  Together with his wife Jennifer, they were avid Rice athletic supporters.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Maconda Brown O'Connor (1930 - 2012):
On May 19, Maconda Brown O’Connor, a social worker, philanthropist and champion for poor children, passed away at the age of 82.  In addition to being the daughter of George R.
