Golden Spikes Award:
Yesterday, Stanford pitcher Mark Appel (the nephew of Natalye Appel ‘80/’82) was named one of thirty semifinalists for the 2012 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award, presented to the nation’s top college baseball player.

The 8 national seeds (in numerical order) are Florida, UCLA, Florida St, Baylor, Oregon, North Carolina, LSU and South Carolina.  Click here for the complete bracket.

Rice is a regional host for (2) Arkansas, (3) Sam Houston St and (4) Prairie View.  Rice is set to begin play at 6:00 pm (CT) on Friday against Prairie View in game 2.  The Rice Regional is paired with the Baylor Regional.  Click here for the Selection Show Watch Party video and here for the Rice release.
