A New Era:

Krystyna Ansevin (1925 - 2013):
On April 22, Dr Krystyna Ansevin passed away.  In 1964, she was appointed Assistant Professor in the Biology Department of Rice, making her the first female faculty member of the Wiess School of Natural Sciences.  She remained on the faculty until she retired in 1980.  Also, she was active in community organizations.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Richard Casey (1938 - 2013):
On April 19, Richard Casey passed away at the age of 74.  He earned a PhD in Marine Biology from USC and he “devoted his life to micro-biological research in the Pacific Ocean and to the health of the oceans of tomorrow”.  He was a professor at Rice, among other schools.  Click here for the Imperial Valley Press obituary.

Melissa Kean is one of the speakers at the Rogues, Rascals and Role Models’ Houston history conference co-hosted by the City of Houston and the Houston History Association taking place  on May 4.  Click here for more information.

Thomas McKittrick (1934 - 2013):
As reported yesterday, Thomas McKittrick ’56 passed away.  After practicing architecture 25 years in Houston, he spent 12 years on the Texas A&M Department of Architecture faculty.  Also, he was ARA Board President in 1978-79 and was active in community and religious organizations.

A memorial service will be held at the Rice Memorial Chapel tomorrow at 11 am with reception to follow.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Thomas McKittrick:
Thomas McKittrick, ARA Board President in 1978-1979, has passed away.  He graduated from Rice with a BS in Architecture in 1956 and from Texas A&M with a Masters of Architecture in 1991.  He is survived by his wife, Barbara McKittrick ’60, among others.  I will publish the obituary when available.

Rita Miller Fason (1935 - 2013):
On April 13, Rita Miller Fason passed away.  A native North Dakotan, she graduated from Rice in 1957 with a BA in History and later earned a law degree from UH.  She practiced family law in Houston and was active in religious and community organizations.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.
