With his wife Karrie '92, Tim League '92 founded the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema.  Interestingly, Karrie earned a BA in Biology and French and Tim earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a BA in Art and Art History at Rice.  Click here for a recent story in the Los Angeles Times.

Dan Smith, who captained the 1928 Rice golf team, was the grandson of Daniel Smith, the mayor of Houston from 1886 to 1890.  Interestingly, Dan Smith's granddaughter is avid Rice baseball fan Sherron Smith Watkins.

On Saturday, May 12, the Association of Rice Alumni will award the 2012 Gold Medal to Rice sports fan and William P Hobby Professor of History John Boles ’65.  He is a past winner of the other two top ARA awards – the Meritorious Service Award in 1991 and the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2004.  It appears he will be the first ever ARA triple crown winner.
