Rice Spaceport Frontiers Lecture, Tonight:
Next up will be David Alexander (Director, Rice Space Institute) at 7 pm tonight at Room 100, Keck Hall.  The topic of his speech is “The Texas Space Landscape”.  The event is free and open to the public.  Read more.

John Oddo (1946 - 2016):
John Oddo recently passed away.  A native of Ohio, he received a bachelor’s degree from Akron University in 1969, a master’s degree from the University of Toledo in 1971 and a PhD in Geology from Rice in 1980.  He enjoyed a career in water chemistry and oil in the private sector and academia for many years.  Click here for the Akron Beacon Journal obituary.

Obama in Cuba-un Nuevo dia by Erika de la Garza

David Harkrider (1931 - 2016):
On February 16, David Harkrider passed away.  A native Houstonian, he received a BA in Physics from Rice in 1953, a MA from Rice in Geology in 1957 and a PhD in Geophysics from Caltech in 1963.  He enjoyed an academic career at Brown and Caltech.  He is survived by, among others, his wife Sara.  Click here for The Concord Journal obituary.

Eddie Wold '76:
Eddie Wold, who earned a BA in Mathematics from Rice in 1976, has been elected to the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) Hall of Fame.  Read more.

Frederic "Fritz" Attermeier (1946 - 2016):
On January 26, Frederic “Fritz” Attermeier passed away.  A native of Wisconsin, he earned a BA in Economics from Rice in 1968, a MS in Accounting from UH, a JD from South Texas College of Law and a LLM in Taxation from DePaul University.  He was board certified in taxation law and was a CPA.  Also, he was passionate about music and established an endowed scholarship in his mother’s name at the Shepherd School.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Evelyn Chew (1924 - 2016):
On March 18, Evelyn Chew passed away.  A native Houstonian, she earned a BA in English from Rice in 1944.  She was “a loving wife, mother of three, grandmother of eight, great-grandmother of seen, and friend of many”.  Also, she was active in community service.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.
