Paul Janish:
On March 23, Paul Janish was placed on the 15-day DL retroactive to March 22 (recovering from October 2012 left shoulder surgery).

Brian Friday:
Brian Friday has retired from baseball, is back at Rice finishing his degree requirements and plans to graduate in December.  This summer, he will intern for Goldman Sachs as a financial analyst in their Houston office.

Jeremy Schaffer:
Last Thursday, the former and current Cardinal Jeremy Schaffer broke his left wrist in a minor league camp game.  He had surgery the next day and is expected to be out 6 to 8 weeks.

On Tuesday, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported that Paul Janish, who had left shoulder surgery last October, "could be ready to play in early April and will go to Triple-A Gwinnett and play shortstop when ready".
