Evelyn Weymouth (1934 - 2016):
On December 3, Evelyn Weymouth passed away.  A native Houstonian, she attended Rice (class of 1956) where she met her husband Allen Weymouth ’55.  They lived in Germany and West University Place.  After 41 years of marriage, Allen passed away in 1996.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Ella Lee Lassister (1931 - 2016):
As reported, Ella Lee Lassiter, the wife of Ron Lassiter ’55, passed away on Tuesday.  She was an integral part of the group that formed the RBI Club in 2001.  The memorial service will be 11 am on Wednesday, January 4 at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, with a reception to follow.  Click here for the full obituary.

Roger Haynes (1929 - 2016):
On November 30, Roger Haynes passed away.  A native Oklahoman, he graduated from Rice in 1949 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering.  He worked for Conoco Oil and its subsidiaries for 36 years.  He is survived by, among others, his wife of 55 years, Jerry.  Click here for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette obituary.

As reported yesterday, Leonard Lane ’74 has completed the webpage for Bexar County. Interestingly, the architect of the Bexar County courthouse 1928 addition was Emmett Jackson, the grandfather of Guy Jackson ’71. You can see his name on the cornerstone in Leonard’s photo (scroll towards bottom of webpage).  

Thomas Yeates (1956 - 2016):
On November 26, Thomas Yeates passed away.  A native New Yorker, he served in the military and then enjoyed a 35-year career at Rice.  He is survived by, among others, his wife, Lizanne, another longtime Rice employee.  Click here for The Pearland Journal obituary

Yesterday, Medgadget ranked the Sterile Box, created by Rice students and their mentors, as one of the best medical technologies of 2016 in the category of surgery.

Vernon Bolleter (1925 - 2016):
On November 30, Vernon Bolleter passed away.  A native Texan, he served in the US Marine Corps, attended Rice (class of 1950) and graduated from UH.  He enjoyed a career in the oil exploration business, retiring in 1987 from Tenneco.  He is predeceased by, among others, his wife, Sandra.  Click here for The Advertiser obituary.

Rentz Gullick Jr (1924 - 2016):
On November 21, Rentz Gullick Jr passed away.  A native Texan, he served in the Navy and graduated from Rice with a BS in Chemical Engineering in 1947.  He enjoyed a 43-year career with Shell, working in planning and computing in various cities including Houston, Anacortes WA and New York City.  He is predeceased by, among over, his wife of over 50 years, Jean.  Click here for The Kingwood Observer obituary.

Rice unveiling required freshmen sexuality course (Houston Chronicle)

Robert Ehrhart MD (1948 - 2016):
On November 16, Dr Robert Ehrhart passed away.  A native Texan and raised in Pittsburgh and on Cape Cod, he earned a BA in German from Rice in 1970 and a MD from the University of Pittsburgh Medical School in 1974.  After postgraduate medical education, he practiced rheumatology in Sheboygan from 1985 to 2015. Also, he had a lifelong love of reading and enjoyed gardening. He is survived by, among others, his wife Rica whom he married in 1977.  Click here for The Cape Codder obituary.

Wes Anderson’s next film “Isle of Dogs’, currently filming in London, will be released in 2018.  He is the son of ARA Meritorious Service Award winner and avid Rice baseball fan Texas Anderson ‘81/’85.  Read more.

On November 16, Martha Rose Romanko passed away.  A native Californian, she graduated from Rice in 1985 where she met her husband Terry ’84.  They lived in Nevada, Texas, Washington and Missouri.  She was “a loving wife, mother, and friend to many”.  Click here for the obituary.

Memo Trevino '83:
Memo Trevino ’83, a member of the Rice Board of Trustees, was named Outstanding Local Leader by the John Ben Shepperd Public Leadership Institute as one of the 2017 Texas Leadership Forum Awards.  In February, he will be inducted into the Texas Leadership Hall of Fame in Austin.
