Lee Nicholson:
On December 7, Lee Nicholson passed away.  In 1954, he graduated from Rice with a BS in Architecture.  He was “accomplished and recognized architect” in Memphis.  Also, he was active in his church.  He is predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Beverly, who passed several months ago.  Click here for The Commercial Appeal obituary.

Universities Race to Nurture Start-Up Founders of the Future (New York Times)

Ralph Young (1922 - 2015):
On November 17, Ralph Young passed away.  A native Texan, he graduated from Rice in 1943 with a BS in Chemical Engineering.  Also, he lettered in golf and was Captain (1942-43).  After military service in WWII, he enjoyed a “career as a multi-state Registered Professional Engineer for 40 years, primarily in the Global Engineering & Construction business for the Process Industries”.   In retirement, he became very involved in community service.  He is predeceased by, among others, his wife of 65 years, Marjorie.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Evelyn Bailey (1920 - 2015):
On December 19, Evelyn Bailey passed away.  A native Californian, she graduated from Rice in 1941.  After military service in WWII, she and her late husband Fred Bailey ’38 lived in Texas as he pursued a career in the ministry and she was very active in the community including playing an instrumental role in founding St Andrew’s Episcopal School in Austin in the early 1950s .  In 1977, he was installed as the Bishop of the Diocese of West Texas.  In 1985, he retired and they traveled around the world, spent time at their lake house in Austin and enjoyed their family.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Bill Lindsey Sr (1932 - 2015):
On November 30, Bill Lindsey Sr passed away.  A native Texan, he earned a BA (1953) and a BS (1954) from Rice in Mechanical Engineering.  While at Rice, he met Jane Reynolds “55 and they were married in 1955.  Together, they raised 6 children while on the move in Alaska, Venezuela and Louisiana.  After 29 years of marriage, she passed away.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Dr Daniel Creson, MD, PhD (1935 - 2015):
On November 30, Dr. Daniel Creson passed away.  A native Texan, he earned an undergraduate degree from Texas Tech, a MD from UTMB Galveston in 1962 and a PhD in Anthropology from Rice in 1976.  After military service, he taught at UTMB Galveston and UTHSC Houston and retired as Professor Emeritus in 2003.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Tom Mabry (1932 - 2015):
On November 29, Tom Mabry passed away.  A native Texan, he earned BS and MS degrees from East Texas State in 1953 and a PhD from Rice in 1960, all in Chemistry.  In 1962, he joined the Department of Botany at the University of Texas and retired in 2006 as Professor Emeritus after a long teaching career. Sharon Van Amburg Radford (1945 - 2015):
On December 2, Sharon Van Amburg Radford passed away.  A native Missourian, she graduated from Rice in 1966 with a BA in Biology.  Since 1971, she lived in Georgia where she taught high school biology in Decatur for 40 years.  A year ago, after her pancreatic cancer was diagnosed, she was elected president of the National Association of Biology Teachers.  She is survived, by among other, her husband since 1967, James ’67.  Click here for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution  obituary.
