Paul Tobolowsky '69:
Retired from his medical practice, Paul Tobolowksy ’69 has released his first book, Stardust Dancing (A Seeker’s Guide to the Miraculous).  Be sure to check out the website for the book which includes a review by Professor Gilbert Cuthberson.

Ruth Howard (1917 - 2013):
On December 23, Ruth Howard passed away.  While traveling to work at Dunn & Bradstreet on the bus, she met her husband-to-be Roy Howard ’43 who was a Rice student at the time.  They were married for 71 years until his death.  Also, she was active in her church.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Pat Mickley (1945 - 2013):
On December 21, Pat Mickley passed away.  A native Houstonian, he graduated from Centenary College in 1969.  He was “an avid Rice Owls baseball fan who very rarely missed a game”.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Thomas Whitaker (1921 - 2013):
On December 6, Thomas Whitaker passed away.  A native Texan, he earned a BS in electrical engineering from Rice in 1942.  After military service in WWII, he earned a MS from Rice in 1952 and a PhD from UT in 1964, both in electrical engineering.  He enjoyed a long and productive career as a professor of electrical engineering at UH, retiring in 1985.  He is survived by, among others, his wife of 70 years, Velma.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Annot Millwee Littlepage (1933 - 2013):
On November 21, Annot Millwee Littlepage passed away.  A native Texan, she earned a BA in English from Rice in 1955 and a PhD in education from the University of Tennessee in 1979.  After a long career in education, she became a realtor in Austin.  She is survived by, among others, her husband of 57 years, Clarence.  Click here for the Austin American-Statesman obituary.

Seiichi Matsuda:
Matsuda named dean of graduate and postdoctoral studies (Rice News)

John Burns (1930 - 2013):
On December 2, John Burns passed away.  A native Texan, he earned a BA in Chemistry in 1951 and a PhD in Chemistry in 1955, both from Rice.  After teaching at the University of Kentucky, he worked for the Argonne National Laboratory near Chicago and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee.  Also, he was active in his church.  Click here for the Asheville Citizen-Times obituary.
