Edwin Arnold Jr (1918 - 2011):
On November 24, Edwin Arnold Jr passed away.  A native Houstonian, he graduated from Rice in 1939.  After service in World War II, he worked as an accountant from 1946 until 1987.  He loved the outdoors, baseball, good cigars, a good book or puzzle and family.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Berry Kids Baseball Skills Clinic, Saturday, December 3:
All little league age baseball players (boys and girls aged 4 -12) are invited to attend the Berry Kids Baseball Skills Clinic, this Saturday, December 3.  The Clinic will be instructed entirely by current and former college and professional baseball players including many Rice stars.

The Clinic will benefit the Berry kids.  Click here for a story about the Berry family.

The morning session, between 9 am to noon, will be general baseball skills and the afternoon session, between 1 to 2 pm, will be pitching/catching.  Registration is $50 for the morning session and $15 for the afternoon session.  The Clinic will be held at Westbury Little League, 5300 Dryad, Houston.

Jennifer Corkill Deavan (1966 - 2011):
On November 20, Jennifer Corkill Deavan passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 44.  Born in Libya, she earned a BA in Physics from Rice in 1988 and a PhD in Physics from Cal Berkley in 1993.  After raising her children and donating her time to charitable causes, she joined GE Healthcare as an engineer last year.  Her passion was learning, helping, loving and laughing with those around her. Latin Grammy Award Winner Visits Annapolis High (Patch.com)

Jack Moore (1923 - 2011):
On November 20, Jack Moore, MD passed away.  A native Texan, he attended Rice, left to serve in World War II and returned to graduate from the University of Texas and Tulane Medical School.  He practiced medicine, specializing in obstetrics and gynecology, until he retired in 1995.  He was instrumental in the foundation of Women’s Hospital of Texas and served as its first Executive Director.  He was active in his church.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

John Liles (1918 - 2011):
On November 19, John Liles passed away at the age of 93.  A native Texan, he attended Rice and South Texas College of Law.  After military service during World War II, he worked for Humble Oil, now Exxon.  He loved sports and had a passion for traveling around the world.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Susan Anderson Kerr (1945 - 2011):
On November 12, Susan Anderson Kerr passed away after a year-long struggle with cancer.  A native of West Virginia, she moved to Texas with her family when she was eight and graduated from Rice in 1967.  She also earned a masters from Indiana and a PhD from Texas.  She was a loving wife, a devoted mother and a dedicated teacher.  She was very interested in the Spanish language and Catholic culture.  Click here for the Austin American-Statesman obituary.
